Medal of Honor multiplayer Beta kicking off on July 5, according to Play.com [UPDATE]
Update: Whoops. Looks like the Beta offering has been removed entirely, by Play. Maybe it was announced too early or something. (thanks, Emile).
Original: Looks like the previously announced online multiplayer Beta for Medal of Honor is kicking off on July 5, according to a listing from UK online retailer Play.com.
If you pre-order a copy of the game at the site, you will get access to the Beta via a code that will be sent to you on the day it begins.
Play also mentions the beta will end on July 17.
The full snip goes as this:
“Pre-ordering Medal Of Honor from Play.com will give fans the opportunity to join the Medal Of Honor multiplayer BETA when it goes live on July 5th 2010. The BETA will take place between July 5th and July 17th – access codes will be emailed on July 5th. All pre-orders through Play.com will entitle customers to an access code. BETA access details are subject to change at any time.”
We’ll shoot off an email to EA to see if this is correct.
Medal of Honor launches on October 15 for PS3, 360 and PC in Europe.

@2 Surely that’s the whole point? To pre-order the game, try the beta and then cancel your order (Play don’t charge until it has been shipped)

Well, they did say that they were striving to make it not at all like BFBC2.
Proof is in the pudding though I guess.
And hey, it just wouldn’t do for any of us hard-bitten, miserable and cynical bastards to be optimistic on the matter

@8 Optimistic about an assembly line first person shooter? Come on now, a Big Mac is a Big Mac, it doesn’t change simply because you make it over and over again.
EA sticks to mimicking everyone else when they should be thinking creatively and trying to make their own instead. The world really doesn’t need another generic special forces shooter. Most gamers have played that at least two times already.
But I guess if you make enough mediocre shooters you earn as much as one good one.

I didn’t say I was optimistic about it either. I was merely stating the status quo.
Ditto on the EA situation of being on the ‘me-too’ train.

@13 I might’ve been a little harsh, but it’s pretty frustrating that there’s so little imagination in the games industry today. How many times can you try to make the same game?
It goes without saying that I could be proven completely wrong once the game is done, but EA Los Angeles has been making crap games for the better part of a decade, so jaded as I might be, I’ll take those odds to the bank :p
