Natal spotted at D8 conference

Natal was on hand at The Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital conference yesterday, and Engadget snapped loads of pics of it.
The site is calling it the retail version even though it was marked as a developer unit, and you can see the pics for yourself through here.
Microsoft’s Natal event happens the night before E3 starts, so we’ll find out whether the version shown at D8 was retail or not at the event.
Hopefully, we’ll know whether or not it will be called Wave as well.
Thanks, Dutch.

Not bad looking. Can’t wait to see it in black.

I bet they wish they didn’t make the sides of the 360 concave now.

What does that say on the front of it?

“No manual tilt” I think. It was reported featuring a “motorized tilt mechanism”.

Did Engadget pay someone who’d stolen the Natal unit to let them photograph it?

Pat: It says “If you can read this, NATAL won’t work.”

@1 stop being a fanboy. That thing is too big and ugly. Look at the base for crying out loud. What are we in the 70′s?
This isn’t the final product. It can’t be.

@8 Gotta love the large-ish power adapter for it round the back too!

It’s a little bit ugly.
I liked the one from the sci-fi trailer.

Looking at it, it’s almost as high as the machine itself. In fact, it is about the same height.

I agree with TEA….
It is ugly, looks like a massive white square churro :/
There’s almost no design flare to it, it’s just an white rectangular block and the base looks far too cumbersome.

@8 It really isn’t that big if you look at the other pictures it only like an inch(maybe an inch and a half)wide. It might be kinda long but lets think about all the stuff inside of it.. Two cameras which have facial recognition and 3d mapping, voice recognition, motorized mount and I believe it’s own onboard chip which means it won’t pull too much power from the cpu. So I think in hindsight its looks just fine for what it does.

Doesn’t look like a sub-£50 piece of kit to me…

@20 They took away that chip for cost reduce.
You saw Playstation Eye camera? It’s small and already have voice recognition, face recognition and gesture recognition. One thing that it lacks is a skeletal mapping (you call it 3D mapping or whatever).
and Natal is huge for no reason. By the way, one is a simple camera and other is an infrared camera or sensor that recognize gesures by warm + simple microphone.
For that it’s too huge.

It’s even smaller then Playstation Move.

yea in hindsight it does exactly what it does….look like shit. If they don’t fix the look then count me out. My equipment has to look cool while I play my games
….which is why I would never play my 360 laying down on its side either.
Oh how we fall in such a short time M$. You had the ball in 2006. Now you’re dropping it like its hot more times than a bunch of skanks in a rap video.

In fairness, the 360 itself looks like a POS, but that didn’t stop me from buying one.

I like the concave styling of the 360… It’s not much but it’s enough to add a touch of minimalist pizazz.
Natal on the other hand looks plain, blocky and unexciting. The original black design was far more appealing.
