Report – Naughty Dog lends a hand with Killzone 3′s engine

The reveal last night of Killzone 3 through Gamepro magazine yielded all sorts of goodies, and the analyzing of the magazine scans has not stopped.
Turns out, there’s information pertaining to Naughty Dog’s hand in the game in the write up.
According to some reading done by CVG, Naughty Dog has been working alongside Guerilla Games and has co-created the graphics engine for KZ3.
If you missed out on the leak last night, you can get caught up through here, and there’s links to the Gamepro’s scans in there as well.
Unless Sony decides to come on out and formally reveal it ahead of time, expect more on it at E3.

Well, thats a relief, because what Guerilla games made with graphics engine was the most embarasing thing in 2009.
To use pallete to hide bad textures is something, not to mention about bad character models.

Erthazus; “Well, thats a relief, because what Guerilla games made with graphics engine was the most embarasing thing in 2009.”
Digital Foundry; “There’s very little that’s new and surprising in what it does, but in terms of the look, feel and execution, it’s easily the best shooter available on console.”
I agree with the opinion of the latter.
Looking forward to KZ3 and quite happy that Sony’s studios are helping each other out to get the best from their games.

@3 and Halo is the best shooter on consoles.
PR much?
In reality, Killzone 2 looked like any other multiplatform title, with bad textures and interesting at that time pallete and motion (because of Cell processor). Thats it.
Killzone 2 basically was a waste of potential and i’m glad that Naughty Dog, that created outstanding Uncharted 2 will help them to make great game.

Naughty Dog are pretty much in charge of the ICE tools, which I’m pretty sure every first party PS3 developer takes advantage of.

It’s definitely good to hear that Naughty Dog are lending a hand. This can only make Killzone 3 better.

“In reality, Killzone 2 looked like any other multiplatform title”
Really? There was me thinking it’s one of the best technical achievements of this gen of consoles, glad you pointed that out to me or I would never have noticed, maybe I should start playing more multi-platform titles if they are all as embarrassingly bad as KZ2.

KZ2 was overrated and dissapointing from the graphics to the shooting mechanics. Average at best.

It looks pretty badass, and I really enjoyed KZ2. I am pretty sure, a less linear experience will benefit the game entirely.
Jetpacks sound; nay, they ARE awesome.

Killzone 2 – with Guerilla only in charge of its engine – looked proper awesome.
But with Naughty Dog in charge? This could be amazing.

Didn’t every studio associated with Sony have a hand in Killzone 2 anyway?

I see it this way
KZ 2 – focussed on the engine gameplay came second.
KZ 3 – engine is done now they can focus on the gameplay.

I would have to agree with TH on this.
The game had potential but was too samey for my part.
Mind you having read some of the reviews prior to playing it I am not sure I could trust them again.

Aye reask, they could make an absolute cracker of a game using the engine though and im hoping its the same jump in quailty Uc 2 was over the first Uncharted.

So now Killzone 3 has been announced, and looking pretty solid (from the screenshots we have seen).
Do you think we’ll see it this year or Resistance 3?

Id say KZ 3 this year, R3 early 2011.

Hopefully it’ll make it less boring. They should give a hand with the writing too, as that wasn’t very good either.

I’ve seen alot of KZ2 bashing, so I’m gonna say what I loved about it. One: The art direction, and Two: The Guns. Killzone 2 had the best guns ever – they felt so amazing to fire. I wouldn’t usually say that about a shooter, but there was something really awesome about pulling off a headshot with the standard automatic rifle in that game.

Single player was great but MP sucked for me a little. I was expecting COD4 style play.

I think Microsoft embedded Evil into there consoles, which makes 360 owners go slightly insane with rage. I think I’ve built up a resistance to the evil by drinking lots of coca-cola. lol.

It’s still quite possible R3 will get an E3 annoucment for 2010 fall.
Jut becuase they haven’t said anything, doesn’t mean there’s nothing in development.
Organised 6 month maketing cycle can work VERY effectively.

Well theres still THIS to go off. I’d say its possible we’ll see R3 at E3 and i’m really sure Infamous 2 will be on show.

K2 was ok, nothing amazing, really. The 2 Gs, though (gunplay, graphics) were awesome. Headshotting in that game was properly visceral. Keep that up, change up almost everything else.
