Split/Second gets review blow-out, EG lands it with 8

Split/Second’s balls-to-the-walls, mentally insane. At least that’s the impression from the reviews going out on the Black Rock/Disney racer. Get rounded-up after the break, and find out if this one’s for you.
Eurogamer’s gone live with an eight, with everyone else also following with pretty similar scores.
Full list is below.
- Eurogamer – 8
- Kotaku – N/A
- 1UP – A
- Gamesmaster – 8.6
- Gamespot – 7.5
- Joystiq – N/A
- GamesRadar – 8
- Gamepro – 4.5/5
- Eurogamer Germany – 7
- GameReactor Finland – 7
- IGN – 8.5
- Eurogamer Sweden – 8
If you have any links to add, do so below.
Split/Second releases today in the US, and on Friday in the UK for 360, PC and PS3 – with a 3Gb HDD install, not 7Gb .
A demo’s now available on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

Can’t wait for the Digital Foundry face-off.
Wasn’t sure about this game, but the speed seems to be much faster than in the demo and that was my major concern
EDGE 8/10 by the way…

EuroGamer Germany and Gamespot absolutely right: another mediocre racing game nothing more

@Erthazus, Agreed. I’m consistently amazed when people consider 8 a “low score”.
Really looking forward to this game.

I’ve play the game yesterday. Definately not that nice. I’ll rate it the most 7/10 and it is expensive

Good to see it doing well, it seems pretty solid. Not sure whether I’ll buy it, though – racing games generally aren’t my thing unless they’re Burnout.

@Blerk – I agree, but having played the ps3 demo constantly for the last week (at the expense of all the other games I was supposed to be finishing before this came out) I’d say it’s Burnout good. It reminds me of Burnout/Burnout 2 a lot…

My main concern is that they’re saying it’s quite short. Burnout games tend to keep me going for months, dipping in and out whenever I fancy a quick blast. Only having 12 tracks and a couple of extra modes doesn’t sound like it warrants full price.

I love this from the kotaku review :
“A copy of the game was given to us by the publisher for reviewing purposes. Played through nine episodes and multiple multiplayer matches on Xbox 360.”
And no score
*All* reviews should do this.

@Blerk wait til it’s 20 quid for you then I guess…

Yeah, I could well be tempted into a bargain bin purchase – especially seeing as there’s no new Burnout on the horizon.

@28 I guess it depends what Criterion’s NFS turns out like. I see one of their registered domain names was NFS – Takedown (as previously discussed).
We’ll find out at E3…
