Cage: Microsoft was “lying” over “sci-fi” E3 Natal demo

David Cage has come out and attacked Microsoft for “lying” over its “sci-fi” Natal demo from E3 last summer.
The said demo the Quantic Dream co-CEO is referring to is the one which shows a family using various applications with the motion camera, including scanning skateboards for a skating game.
“I’ve seen Natal, and I’m really curious to see what they’re going to do with it,” Cage told D’Toid. “I was a bit frustrated that they presented it with a sci-fi-type presentation.”
He further added: “I thought it was a little bit lying to present it that way because it will let [consumers] think that they will [see] something that they are not really close to getting.”
Microsoft announced recently it will be holding a special Natal event at E3 on Sunday, June 13, before its main presser the day after, at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Natal, which is expected to sell “millions and millions” according to MS, will release this holiday season.
Cage has already hinted at motion controls for Quantic’s latest release Heavy Rain via PlayStation Move.

Yeah, i understood that it is a sci-fi shit from the start.
But my sister was so hyped about this after that Sci-Fi video. It was a PR masterpiece and i think Natal will be the same shit as Eye Toy from the start.

Captain Obvious. It was pretty clear nearly everything in that presentation was bogus and nothing was running in real-time. Ofcourse i can understand where he’s coming from, even if a load of people could instantly see it was nothing but concept, another load would have seen it and believed it. I never really thought of it as being dishonnest because i always knew it was BS but Cage does have a point i guess.
It seems that BS is common place with this type of tech to, i mean, look at the first video HERE. Again its nothing but unreal, not real-time concept. Further down that page you can see to what it really does in realtime, and its nowhere near as impressive.

It seems to me that any consumers out there who can’t tell that this is a concept video doesn’t even know Natal exists. It’s not like this video is being aired on television and blasted around mainstream outlets. Is there a non-hardcore gamer sect that can tell me what Natal is? I’m doubtful.

@3
Actually you’d be surprised at how many media outlets picked up the video after E3 and showed it to the masses. The averge, non-gaming Joe who sees that as a feature on the evening news is hardly going to call BS on it.
And thats really the problem, concept videos like this should never be shown the public because theres always a good part that dont follow the subject enought to know its highly exaggerated.

“(Microsoft) will be holding a special Natal event at E3 on Sunday, June 13, before its main presser the day beforehand”
You can’t hold an event on June 13th and also the day before a presser which is the day before the event.
Time concept fail.

Maybe the event timings are based on the PS3′s internal clock.

It’s okay – trolling around forums and comment boards pointing out minor mistakes in people’s work is just one of the services I offer teh interwebs.

David Cage really shouldn’t have commented because he’s making himself look foolish. It’s advertising. If that’s the case criticize every publisher who used CG to advertise a video game and totally misrepresent the actual game’s content. Fanboys will eat this up but Cage is a bit foolish to think it was anything more than advertising. I would think him smarter than this.

I’m starting to remember a certain Killzone 2 trailer…
This guy is really stupid if he really believed that demo. The demo was presenting examples of how Natal _can_ be used.
I think Natal will be huge, and very fun!

you can’t listen to David Cage when he’s talking about MS, it’s almost like Rare commenting on Sony.

Except David Cage is fully independant and Rare are owned by Microsoft. The media were over hyping Natal based of nothing but Cgi thats the point hes trying to make.

Lol, I knew you would instantly appear.
yeah, that’s why I said “almost”. they’re still under contract with Sony, and they’re clearly their devs at least this gen.

Lol
on the contrary he does have a point. Lying about what your machine can do cost Sony big time as pointed out above with the Kz 2 trailer. QDs only contract is Heavy Rain thier next game could be on Natal if they wanted.

Jesus, can we actually get some good Natal news? Its like, since E3, all we’ve heard (and seen) are the negatives on it. I really hope that the Natal event goes well for them; Greenberg can’t keep the hype levels up by himself when everyone else is so down on it.

@19 good news are at E3 2010. We just need to wait and see what this thing REALLY does.
Since E3 2009 i saw only hype and negative things about Natal how it is unresponsive and blah…blah…blah… Maybe Natal have a chance, maybe not.
