360 Flash drive support update now live

Major Nelson’s confirmed the system update for Xbox 360 which adds USB flash support for the console is now live.
The next time you boot up your 360 and sign into Live, you will be forced to update console.
“Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments,” said Nelson.
To help support the move, Microsoft has teamed up with SanDisk to make official 8Gb and 16Gb memory sticks for 360, although it has been discovered recently they will cost between $40 and $70.

For anyone who doesn’t want to/can’t update online, watch this space for the update:

Blimey, I had no idea you could download the updates and install them from a memory stick. I might do that to save time if it arrives before I go home.

Yeah, I knew you could do it for the PS3 – hence the surprise that you could also do it for the 360.

@6 Hence me saying watch that space for the update and that they are slow at putting them out. And it’s the USB and disc version by the way.

MicroSD to USB converters work, in the sense that they pass the compatibility test, which should mean performance is good. So if you have any spare microSD knocking about, you could use them. They’ve gone up in price recently though, a Sandisk 1GB used to be 38p on Amazon! That would be useful for storing DLC and stuff on microSD which I can connect when I want to use that particular content.
Also, the Xbox takes a whopping 512MB of the space for system files and such.
