Vanquish

Vanquish director Shinji Mikami has confirmed the new IP from Platinum will release this winter in Japan at least.

Speaking in this week’s issue of Famitsu, he also confirmed (via GAF) it’ll be appearing on PS3 and 360.

Mikami also said that – contrary to what’s been said – the game is actually a third-person shooter, not first, saying you will shoot robots in the game, and not humans.

The game’s main plot sees the US taking on Russia in the future, although nothing else was mentioned on the story.

The creator of Resident Evil also said the game it was over 80 percent finished, and a demo was also being planned.

Vanquish was announced last month from Platinum.

    3rd person \o/

one of the screen shots shows what looks like a jet powered dash, maybe it’ll play a bit like virtual on with a cover system, instead of fighting scores of grunts, you’ll be having lengthy tactical battles with big heavily armored enermies

    • Vanquish is PS3/360, it’s confirmed. It’s due to be out by Winter 2010.

    • Mikami says that while it is a third person shooter, it is not a “normal” shooter. It will emphasize speed and fast paced action, and you will also be shooting robots instead of humans.

    • The game setting is a near-future war between US and Russia. By setting it in the future, Mikami can use robots and high tech stuff to make the game more interesting. He says the reason why the enemies are all robots is because he wants to allow players who do not like shooting other humans to be able to play and appreciate the gameplay in shooters as well.

    • The mech suit features a high speed booster which allows you to very quickly boost next to enemies to pull off close range attacks. There are a large variety of close range attacks moves in the game.
(sounds a bit like virtual on lolz)

    • There is a balance between using cover and using the boost, but it is definitely not a pure cover shooter

    • You do not pick up and change weapons in the game, instead your weaponry is part of the suit and it all transforms in realtime into different sorts of weapons.

    • The game is about 80% complete, and they’re working on refining the AI for both allies and enemes at the moment. There is a demo planned.

“to allow players who do not like shooting other humans”

Buh? Some of the biggest shooter franchises revolve around either shooting aliens or monsters.
Not that there’s anything wrong with shooting robots, his reasoning just seems a little out of place.

Christ, another US, Russia face off. Three hearty cheers for original plot lines. :/

I’m sure Mikami will deliver though, lets hope the PS3 release isn’t an after thought this time out.

No chance this was going to be a FPS, not from a Japanese dev.

I see the story obviously will be the game’s strongest point.
