Agent still in development, says Take Two

agentlogo1

Take Two has just confirmed Agent is still in development at Rockstar North.

“The short answer on that is yes, it is still in development,” the company said. We think it was either CEO Ben Feder or chairman Strauss Zenick who said it.

The game has been hidden underground since its reveal at E3 last year, as a PS3 exclusive at Sony’s press conference.

It was dated for this year back in fall of last year, but nothing specific was given.

Rockstar did say, however, that the espionage title set in the 70s would be “spectacular” – so at least that is something.

The news is out of the company’s Q1 financials conference call.

That one quote above? That was all they said on it.

That was it. Nothing else.

They probably can’t say too much…Sony will want to show it all at E3 no doubt.

2@ No, its an exclusive title for PS3.

I still don’t understand: why this need to be an exclusive title for PS3? Can it move or sell consoles? I don’t see this like a console moving material. Game about cold war and espionage? As a hardcore PC gamer i’m excited for this serious cold war story for my PS3… but consumer care about stuff like Halo, Killzone more… something stupid and brainless… So…

Its just a Rockstar kiss to Sony for previous relationships where GTA was a PS1,PS2 exclusive i think.

It’s because R* picked up LA Noire, a game which Sony dropped after sinking $20 million into, so Sony said they wouldn’t pursue the costs in return for a franchise exclusive i.e. Agent.

Im hoping for a Hitman style sort of game personally.

Razor, I believe that too.

It all coincides chronologically.

But at the same time, it’s rumour and speculation. The deal could be very different.

However an exclusive (timed) was publicly announced, by people at Sony, Take Two AND Rockstar. And they’ve just confirmed it’s still around.

The fact that there is a ‘long answer’, is a little worrying though.

@Razor and No_PUDding

Not saying LA noire funding hasnt played a part but,the official Sony line was the game was a trade for dropping GTA 4 as a PS exclusive.

Heres the swap quote from Tretton

“SCEA CEO Jack Tretton told host Geoff Keighley that getting the exclusive rights to Rockstar’s next franchise was apparently “in exchange for letting them out of [the GTA IV] exclusive.”

I think Sony wil also share a lot of there first parties knowledge, they will have access to things like GOW3 AA soloution, that spreads the load over 5 SPU,direct access with ICE,seeing as it’s R* north (scotland) they’ll have quick tech support from Sony cambridge, they’ve done stuff on all of Sony’s big games.

Sony will want to put everything behind this,I mean it’s R* norths next ip,and it’s exclusive to PS3,why wouldn’t they.

But that’s clearly bullshit.

That will have been a serendipitous scenario, where PR damage control was handed to Sony on a silver platter.

GTA was always Take Two’s to take where they wanted, it was always a matter of buying exclusivity, and absolutely nothing to do with heritage, loyalty or (and the thought is laughable) Sony having some form of control over the IP.

Everything to do with money, install base and not wasting their premiere IP.

We haven’t seen any of the developers taking a dump….
Are they still doing that too?

They should turn this into a game based on the TV show Archer, it would be awesome. Has a 60′s spy setting only with all modern gadgets and the darkest humor which Rockstar I’m sure appreciates.

“the espionage title set in the 70s” ??
Isn’t it set much earlier, in the 40s or somewhere near?
