Screens – Yakuza 3

SEGA has sent over some shots of Yakuza 3, and we’ve posted the lot below the break for you.

That one screen with all the kids at the beach looks a bit “Children of the Corn” to us, but it probably isn’t as menacing as it looks there – it’s just our imagination.

The game’s set for release March 12 on PS3, but those looking for the Hostess Club or Quizzes will miss out as those bits have been cut for being too “Japanese” for western gamers.

Still, it’s finally heading outside of Japan, and that has been wanted for ages.

Enjoy the screens.

Really too bad it doesn’t look like that ingame at all. When you fire up the demo and you see the cutscenes it looks quite nice and then ingame it’s so much less impressive. And the animations are ridiculously stiff, it’s clear that they didn’t improve anything from the PS2 games in that aspect.

But there were some fun things in the demo as well, the fighting is fun and it’s cool to pick up stuff and use as weapon. I just wonder how the game in overall is.

I agree that the demo had a very last-gen feel to it from a technical standpoint (and those typically Japanese cutscenes were pointlessly verbose). Hopefully the eclectic mix of ambitious storytelling, RPG-enhanced brawling and quirky minigames will turn out to be one of those instances in which the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

Either way I’m definitely getting this game. Sega deserves all the support they can get for deciding to localize such a niche product (with or without hostess bars).

I have to agree, Sega really do deserve as much support as possible with this game. Release date can’t come soon enough.
