EA publishing deal with Rock Band lasting through March

EA’s confirmed its present deal with Viacom on all things Rock Band from MTV Games and Harmonix is only good for another month.
Speaking in the company’s Q3 FY10 financial call, firm execs said the deal only lasts until the end of March, when the deal expires.
This might be the reason you haven’t formally heard Rock Band 3 yet. At least not until a new deal is in place.
Thanks, Joystiq.

EA would be crazy to let this bugger slip.

I think they’d probably be better off elsewhere, now. EA would probably end up better off investing in other things, too.

Doesn’t EA own Harmonix and the franchise name..?

@4 MTV own em both. EA just package that shiz up, basically.
On a different note (pardon the pun), I would actually love Rockstar to make a music game. They could just call it “Rockstar”

@5 and when it comes to sequel time, they could be all pretentious and call it *Rockstar logo* “The band simulation formaly known as Rockstar”.

Hmmm…if they were going to do this I would have thought they would have done it before now TBH.
As far as I am aware Rock band hasn’t been that profitable for EA/MTV
