Is it getting too old to keep saying grats to Naughty Dog?

EDIT: Just noticed how blocky that ‘villain’s’ head is in the main pic.
Kind of funny.

UC2 under Best Innovation? Come on…

I suppose it innovated with it’s train section (the train was a moving object rather than a background that moved past a static train).

Other then that I can’t find much reason for it to be in that category.

Demon’s Souls is the only one that deserves to win as it’s the only game that has innovation that could transfer into other games. Scribblenauts was a laugh but impractical when put to use, Flower is fantastic in it’s context and Plant’s VS Zombies did little to innovate (despite being a great game).

Demon’s Souls online elements can be adapted to other games.

In terms of game development I’m sure Uncharted 2 was innovative. Naughty Dog’s use of the PS3′s SPUs is unprecedented, and I imagine a lot of left field thinking went into making the game look so good.

I’d agree with onlineatron that Demon’s Souls should win it, mind.

Its looking more and more likely there will be another Uncharted game out this year Norh hints at it in a recent Gamepro interview.

That would be way too soon.

Hey, ever rule anything out in today’s gaming climte. It’s highly unlikely but it would be a way to make Sony a quick buck.

Ubisoft have another AC game coming this year don’t they?

A new proper Uncharted would take 2 years, unless they reuse assets.

God I hope not!

The draw of Uncharted is it’s beautiful graphics, technical showcases and flawless performance capture.

All that would be lost in a PSP game and we’d end up with a mediocre TPS… Unless they got Sony Bend to do something cool with it (ala SF and Resistance).

Jesus. That makes NO SENSE onlineatron.

Uncharted doesn’t have technical showcases… It IS a technical showcase. And I think you made up ‘flawless performance capture’, whatever that means, hasn’t been invented yet.

Calm down…

The set pieces could be described as technical showcases ( what the system is capable of) like the Train being a moving object.
And I over exaggerated with one adjective… Am I the first person on the internet to ever do that?!

That was quite the unprovoked attack ey Pud?

Agreed, I’m not a fan of Halo games but their soundtracks are always brilliant!

I think there’s a mistake on ‘Best Début’

It’s listed as ‘The Maw (Twisted Pixel)’ but i’m pretty sure that didn’t come out in the last year. Most likely is meant to read ‘Splosion Man.

Not a surprise, although deserved for Uncharted 2

I’m very happy to see Flower with 5 though. Not just the best downloadable console game of the year but a great game period.

It and Scribblenauts (even though it was flawed) are far and away the two most innovative titles on that list – much as I like Demon’s Souls and Uncharted 2.

I struggle to class Flower and Scribblenauts as ‘innovative’.

Yes they have unique gameplay mechanics but would those mechanics, taken out of context, benefit or push forward gaming?

I don’t think so.

But then a persistent online world in a single player game (Demon’s Souls) could easily be refined to create better experiences in gaming.

Don’t get me wrong. I LOVED Flower and enjoyed messing around in Scribblenauts but they are really niche in their flexibility.

Innovation doesn’t necessarily mean starting a trend, it simply refers to doing something differently.

By your definition Portal isn’t innovative.

1) I can easily see Portal’s mechanics being used outside of Portal (Darksiders for example).

2) I know by definition innovation doesn’t mean that but I believe if something is going to be praised for innovation said innovation should be trend setting.

Well, not necessarily trend setting but something that could possibly have greater ramifications for games than just a singular, fun and unique experience.
