Greenberg confirms Alan Wake and Crackdown 2 for FH2010
Microsoft games boss Aaron Greenberg’s confirmed both Crackdown 2 and Alan Wake for a first-half 2010 release, speaking in the latest Major Nelson podcast.
“Starting in January we have like a triple A exclusive title pretty much every month for the first half of the year. You’ve got Mass Effect 2, you’ve got Splinter Cell, you’ve got Alan Wake, you’ve got Crackdown 2,” said the exec.
“You’ve got things like Fable 3 and Halo: Reach and coming later that year. Those are just the exclusives.”
Listen at about 31.50. He added: “2010 will be a bigger year that 2009: no doubt.”
No specific dates have been given for Remedy’s opus or Ruffian’s inaugural, but you probably wouldn’t be too stupid to be thinking “May-ish”.
Just saying.

Hurrah! Although releasing Alan Wake in the summer would seem a little counter-productive, given that it’s a ‘play it in the dark’ sort of game, so I hope that’s more sort of March-ish.

The term “Exclusives” is being used very loosely with Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell in there.

Alan Wake going up against Kratos? There will only be chaos…

@Gekidami: They’ve always talked about “console exclusives” in that way. You could look at it as exclusive to a Microsoft platform if it helps.

Good to hear Crackdown 2 will hit so soon. I thought it was going to be a summer release.

Thats why i said “loosely” rather then “wrongly” Psycho.

The word ‘exclusive’ has certainly been somewhat devalued over the last few years.

Anyone think Splinter Cell and Mass Effect will come to the Ps3?

Mass Effect 2 exclusive? I have my doubts.
The PS3 version will probably be released within a few weeks after 360 launch.
Splinter Cell on the other hand may stay exclusive on 360 forever or at least for quite some time.

I seriously doubt a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 would follow ‘within a few weeks’. If they were going to do that then they’d have announced it along with the other versions. I’m thinking maybe 6-12 months later, once the standard “exclusive period” has worn off.

Yeah, it’ll be the standard 6 or 12 months for sure if it’s going to happen. That said, we don’t really know the specifics of the original contract so it may end up being a permanent exclusive.

The problem with the “6 or 12 months” between version launches is that you need to do marketing twice. And thats’ just not EAs style of selling a AAA-game.
Again, my guess is that it will stay exclusive forever or be published within weeks of the 360 launch.

There’s no way it’ll be within weeks. Someone would have already leaked something or a retailer would have let the cat out of the bag.

ME will remain PC/360, I reckon.

Yeah, probably you’re right about the leaks …
So I’ll have to buy it for my 360. A console I haven’t used for almost a year.

Surely that’s a good thing (in that you’ll have some use for it)? By the way, you’ve missed out on some stonking XBLA titles.

I think Mass Effect 2 will eventualy hit the Ps3 along the way.Remember that guy who hinted that it will get a ps3 release? then one day later he denied that and said that it’s only for 360 and PC.
That smells fishy…As if Microsoft shut his mouth because we wasn’t supposed to talk about that(he let it slipped) since they paid for time exclusivity. When a title is timed exclusive it’s supposed to be “exclusive”

No I didn’t miss anything!
I’m a methusalem gamer. I like big tripple-a games with lot’s of story elements. I never play 2d scrollers. Didn’t like them in the 70′s and 80′s and still don’t like them today.
I’m the Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Fallout, Metal Gear Sold & Heavy Rain kind of player.
Single-player all the way …

There’s a lot more to XBLA / PSN games than 2D scrollers.

Sure there are a few full-3d “mini-games”.
Bought “Flowers” on the PSN. Artistically phenomenal but bored me to death.

Fair enough, horses for courses and all that. Without PSN / XBLA this gen for me would have been distinctly average.

January: MAG & Mass Effect 2
February: Heavy Rain & Splinter Cell: Conviction
March: God of War III & Crackdown 2
April: Stop gap.
May: Alan Wake is pretty much a winner here. So far, nothing in May from Sony.
It seems Microsoft are mostly keen on matching Sony tat-for-tat in Q1 anyways.

May? GT5…
PLEASE!!
As for Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3, it will be the standard 6-12 month exclusive thing, as mentioned, IF it happens.
And if it does, there will be no proper marketing cycle for the PS3 version, there never needs to be with a port, it’s just to squeeze some extra out of a game, on a cross platform engine.

Whats more interesting is we know nothing about the PS3 fall 2010 lineup.
Last Guardian is the only one I can think of. Outside of that, it looks like there’s nothing, or some announcements coming soon.

Insomniac’s game will be announced at GDC anyways. Maybe ESP’s game as well.
Outside that… god only knows.

Still, just unusual for Sony not to have announced everything YEARS ahead, it’s much more entertaining for me.

here’s an incomplete list of ps3 devs that have yet to announce their game for 2010 that are “due”:
evolution studios (motorstorm 3?)
studio liverpool (a “real” wipeout?)
insomniac (Resistance 3)
Guerilla (Killzone 3, remember the rumors)
Santa Monica’s Warhawk team (Starhawk?)
resistance 3 might be a Q1 11 release though (it should be, for the sake of the franchise), as well as Killzone.

R3 will be 2011 i’m sure. Their new studio is working on something though. No doubt that’ll be out in 2010.

Ahh yes, Evolution. Forgot about them.
‘Santa Monica Warhawk Team’ doesn’t exist – Even when they were Incognito, they were Salt Lake City, Utah – Not Santa Monica, California. But they are now in Austin, Texas.

Seems to me that Sony have really changed their policy about announcing or revealing their projects.
Seeing how they are keeping GoW III under wraps for the public,so we don’t see how exactly it looks like(which is rumored by people who attented the event and played the final build to be far better than the E3 Demo) or being told about it before mid January seems like they’re keeping many projects a secret (because of the competition)and wait for the right moment to reveal them one by one.
