KMART lists PS3 Slim for $299, August 24 launch

Tuesday, 18th August 2009 13:45 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Looks as though this isn’t so much of a secret any more. KMART just listed PS3 Slim for pre-sell at $299, to launch on August 24.

It’s got a 120Gb HD, according to the retailer. Here’s the blurb:

PS3, SLIM High-Definition Blu-ray player for the best movie experience. Free PLAYSTATION Network membership. 120GB HDD for downloading games, music, videos, and photos. Includes DUAL SHOCK 3 controller. HDMI output for 1080p resolution.

The Sony GamesCom press conference is expected to confirm details of the new SKU tonight at 7.00pm German time.

We’re just winding up for it now. Get more details here.

Thanks, Psychotext.

So… What is $299, and what is the US PS3 price right now?

It’s not still $399 is it?

    #5 5 years ago
  6. No_PUDding

HEY, it’s Pat. Have you been on the showfloor yet? Need to know if Granm Turismo 5 is playable :D

If not, you should probabaly break through security, just to check. It’s quite important.

    #6 5 years ago
  7. Psychotext

Yes Pud, the current PS3 is $399.

    #7 5 years ago
  8. Lutz

$399 is the net value. That equates to £243.29 as per

Add in VAT and that makes £279.78 at 15% VAT and £285.87 at 17.5% VAT

    #8 5 years ago
  9. Lutz

$299 equates to £182.31 net, which is £209.66 at 15% VAT and £214.22 with 17.5%.

So.. £229.99 I reckon after you’ve added in the “shaft the UK’ers good style up the wrong ‘un” charge.

“shaft the UK’ers good style up the wrong ‘un” charge”

More eloquent than how I put it in the other thread. :D

Europeans are so used to being shafted up the wrong ‘un they barely notice any more.

You’re a strange one tea. I get the feeling I’m far more interested in gaming generally than you are… given you seem more interested in console wars.

You’re an adult supposedly too right? I could understand it if you were a teenager or something like that.

    I missed ‘Xbot’ and ‘droids’.

I am bringing them back. Okay?

You have to feel for those people who just splashed out for the £349+ PS3 deals this weekend…

    #18 5 years ago
  19. theevilaires

not really the ps3 is still worth that much

    #19 5 years ago
  20. Robster1979

Used prices will take a hit no doubt. All current PS3′s will be devalued in the used market the minute the Slim is launched. (assuming its better and people would prefer the Slim)

    #20 5 years ago

If they’d waited, they could have had an extra couple of games or something though…

    #21 5 years ago
  22. theevilaires

    so lets see you get

ps1+ps3 for $100 not bad IMO
    Bluray player for $100 great
Plus built in wifi,120gb hdd, and free (lifetime) online service for $100

and an added web browser bonus that you can easily download free songs and movies with

….oh and install a linux OS too :)

I saw a v. nice Sony Blu Ray for £150 the other day. I think I’ll get it on the 1st in fact.

i still don’t know why you guys just don’t import american ps3′s aren’t they cheaper?

    #24 5 years ago
  25. Robster1979

TEA – have you ever considered that the majority of people might not want all the stuff you listed?
While it may represent excellent value to you, someone who requires and will use all those features, to John Smith who just wants to play games its all just “noise” and doesnt add anything for them, (probably deters them if they are techno phobs) hence they buy the cheaper 360 or Wii.

  26. theevilaires

anyway price won’t save sony. firmware will :P

It’s just a pain in the arse, and if the console dies then you’re up a creek.

£349+ PS3 deals? The UK market is awash with £249 PS3 bundles (some two, some three games) and has been for weeks.

“i still don’t know why you guys just don’t import american ps3’s aren’t they cheaper?”

Because we like the idea of being able to buy and play blu-ray films without having to import them too?

    #31 5 years ago
  32. Gekidami

Some blu-rays are region free, SOME.

That’s great, but I have a limited love of Japanese porn and gardening documentaries.

Well like it or not, I saw some the other day.

I can’t really be bothered to search, but here’s a £319 one from GAME which includes a game which is close to a year old…

btw, you might want to let GAME know about the ‘flood’ of £249 offers, because they certainly don’t have a single one.

no i would’nt want a free web browser because im using the internet now oh gosh- im so stupid.

i would’nt want a blu-ray player because i just love watching SD movies on my 1080p sets wow wouldn’t want that- im so stupid

i want to mod and hack my psp games to play pirated games but the (free)psn service lets me buy great psp and ps1 classics that i can buy legally and play on the go with my psp. I want to not be a thief- oh doh- im stupid.

free wifi- i dont want to be able to move my ps3 from my living room to my bedroom to my bathroom :P and to my basement freely. i would rather run a 500ft ethernet cable everywhere- im so stupid

nope i don’t want to play superior games like 1st party exclusives on a ps3- im stupid

don’t want to install linux because VISTA is PERFECT!- IM SO STUPID

    You’re wasting your time Robster.

  38. Cort

Yeah sorry G1GA, you’re right as usual. People should really learn not to doubt you.

BTW, for someone who constantly insists you don’t give a fuck about the PS3, you don’t half spend a lot of time posting on PS3 articles trying to tell people it’s crap/expensive/not worth it/no-one buys games/they only buy it for Blu-ray/no-one wants Blu-ray.

Don’t worry, pretty soon you’ll be ble to afford one.

I get what tea is saying but personally BR does nothing for me.
I still download the SD version of films on live.
I also refuse to pay extra for sky hd.
You can get sick and tired been told every 12 months that the system you are using is now inferior.

99% of it is marketing bulls**t.
EDIT:Thats not to say I wont get the PS3 at this price as it is a good deal compared to 230 Euro for the 60 gig 360.

  41. theevilaires

thank you reask, psychotext and robster are clearly republicans :P

  42. freedoms_stain

To be fair on TEA Robster I think the point you’re making is a bit of a shitty one. “just playing games” as you put it is a whole different kettle of fish today and for a growing number of gamers, maybe even a majority on 360 and ps3 platforms online play is an essential factor, and pretty much everyone with an internet connection has wireless now – it’s the standard, so far from being “noise” wireless connectivity is pretty much a standard now that people really just expect when it comes to the internet.

Anyone who considers the ps3′s HD superiority “noise” probably shouldn’t be allowed to buy anything with a plug until they’ve had a lengthy lecture about what the fuck HD actually is. These are the same people who bring their £1000 hdtv’s back to the shop because bbc1 is fuzzy – tv is fine of course, bbc1 is broadcast in sd…

Pretty amazing year to be born, is 1979!

    Thank you very much sir.

the wonder years are over fellas these are the HD Days. if you don’t own a HD set to go along with your HD gaming console then you don’t appreciate the advancement of tech. therefor you may be the reason behind nintendo’s shameful lost of respect in video gaming currently.

1979 was a hell of year btw!

  46. Galactic_Barret

This is getting a tad silly. If you are really, seriously looking into buying an Arcade 360, good for you, but you’re getting the gimped model. No sense a la carte upgrading, either, unless you prefer paying more in the long run. If you want the “real” one, it’ll be $299.99 soon, same as the PS3. Their differences in library aren’t so obvious anymore, with the PS3 you get a bit more added value elsewhere. If you want to just “game”, pick your poison, both do that. The holidays are going to be interesting.
