$399 is the net value. That equates to £243.29 as per xe.com.

Add in VAT and that makes £279.78 at 15% VAT and £285.87 at 17.5% VAT

$299 equates to £182.31 net, which is £209.66 at 15% VAT and £214.22 with 17.5%.

So.. £229.99 I reckon after you’ve added in the “shaft the UK’ers good style up the wrong ‘un” charge.

Used prices will take a hit no doubt. All current PS3′s will be devalued in the used market the minute the Slim is launched. (assuming its better and people would prefer the Slim)

If they’d waited, they could have had an extra couple of games or something though…

Bluray player for $100 great
Plus built in wifi,120gb hdd, and free (lifetime) online service for $100

and an added web browser bonus that you can easily download free songs and movies with

….oh and install a linux OS too

TEA – have you ever considered that the majority of people might not want all the stuff you listed?
While it may represent excellent value to you, someone who requires and will use all those features, to John Smith who just wants to play games its all just “noise” and doesnt add anything for them, (probably deters them if they are techno phobs) hence they buy the cheaper 360 or Wii.

I still download the SD version of films on live.
I also refuse to pay extra for sky hd.
You can get sick and tired been told every 12 months that the system you are using is now inferior.

To be fair on TEA Robster I think the point you’re making is a bit of a shitty one. “just playing games” as you put it is a whole different kettle of fish today and for a growing number of gamers, maybe even a majority on 360 and ps3 platforms online play is an essential factor, and pretty much everyone with an internet connection has wireless now – it’s the standard, so far from being “noise” wireless connectivity is pretty much a standard now that people really just expect when it comes to the internet.

Anyone who considers the ps3′s HD superiority “noise” probably shouldn’t be allowed to buy anything with a plug until they’ve had a lengthy lecture about what the fuck HD actually is. These are the same people who bring their £1000 hdtv’s back to the shop because bbc1 is fuzzy – tv is fine of course, bbc1 is broadcast in sd…

This is getting a tad silly. If you are really, seriously looking into buying an Arcade 360, good for you, but you’re getting the gimped model. No sense a la carte upgrading, either, unless you prefer paying more in the long run. If you want the “real” one, it’ll be $299.99 soon, same as the PS3. Their differences in library aren’t so obvious anymore, with the PS3 you get a bit more added value elsewhere. If you want to just “game”, pick your poison, both do that. The holidays are going to be interesting.
