Far Cry 2 graphics video released, is awesome

After the break. It’s a movie specifically designed to show off the undeniably spectacular visuals in Far Cry 2. You’d have to be fairly doggish to complain about any of this, quite frankly. It looks incredible.

See for yourself.

I’ve not watched the embedded movie.

However, I find it hard to get overly excited by the claims this site makes about this game when there’s a FUCKING HUGE ADVERT for the game as the site’s wallpaper.

    Just sayin’

    Noted.

It does look awesome. Come on Ubi, don’t fuck it up.

As soon as the ad changes to something else, Pat, will that be your favourite game too?

Hey, if you were to see 50 Cent talking about a videogame featuring 50 Cent and saying how amazing the videogame was, you’d by a little cynical of it wouldn’t you?

And, no doubt, you’d make remarks about such a connection in your written observations.

So, please, let’s not have any double-standards on show for a change.

And, yes, whenever you start eulogizing about your sponsors products then it’ll send up little red flags. Whoever the sponsor.

Or are you saying you’ve decided to run that advert out of your fondness for the game and are getting no financial renumeration from its publishers whatsoever?

Shatner – Oh, fuck off. You really are bewilderingly predictable. The game looks brilliant.

Hey, I’m cynical about a lot of things. The relationship between the media and its sponsors being one.

I really don’t have a problem with it. Industry. Money. Sponsors. Advertising. Marketing. I know exactly how the wheels turn.

Just don’t tell people asking you simple questions to fuck off and don’t get so ridiculously defensive about things that you will (and often do) criticise others for. That’s just dumb and exhibits horrible double-standards.

Why don’t you just answer a simple question?

You want me to say whether or not Ubisoft paid for that ad space?

    #12 6 years ago
  13. Shatner

Not any more, no. Your reaction rather eclipses the point of the question.

You know, it’s about this time of the day that I like some NESCAFE GOLD BLEND.

I prefer SAINSBURY’s own, tbh. Richer, smooter and a fuller flavour. And cheaper too!

Accusations of corruption really are the mainstay of the internet bottom-feeder, to be honest. I just say what I think. If I think something’s good, or shit, I say so. If people want to advertise on the site that’s fine by me.

    #15 6 years ago
  16. that_happy_cat

I’m happy Pat gets paid for advertising otherwise there’d be no site to visit and Shatner would have to go back to pouring boiling water on ants and poking kittens with pointy sticks.

    #16 6 years ago
  17. pleasant_cabbage

    Wat? People pay for ads?
I think I’ve heard it all now. ;)

Shatner: you’re close to making a pretty libellous dig about Pat and co imo so don’t get too shirty if they call you on it.

You were suggesting that ubi had bought all comments from here on FC2 rather than just the ad space. If someone questioned your integrity I’m sure you’d react as colourfully. –edit– too slow

I haven’t been looking forward to FC2 that much (don’t know why, I enjoyed the first – maybe getting a little fpsed out), but I do feel my ‘get shiny thing’ sense is beginning to tingle.

  18. Shatner

Accusations of corruption? Hardly. If anything it was an accusation of professionalism.

Don’t play the victim card Pat.

Just take it with as much good humour as you’d expect anyone you write about to have.

PC: that’s not what I said. But don’t let that stop you.

    #18 6 years ago
  19. patlike

    Like I said. “Bottom-feeder.”

    #19 6 years ago
  20. morriss

I thought the victim-card accusations were reserved for me? :(

I’m just not special any more. My other always told me, “morriss, you’re not special.”

    #20 6 years ago
  21. Shatner

Hey pat, easy with the name calling. It damages your moral stance.

It’s ok morriss, I’ll always regard you as special.

  22. morriss

Bah you went and edited it all now, Shatner. :(

  23. G1GAHURTZ

I’m one of the biggest FPS fans that I know, but I don’t think that I’ll be getting this game.

not because I care about the advertising here or because of anything to do with the quality of the game…

More likely to do with the fact that I’ll probably be playing FIFA until next month, then there’ll only be one game that I’ll be putting in my 360 from the 7th of November (or possibly the 6th if my pre-order comes early!).

Sorry Far Cry… you just picked the wrong time.

    FIFA -> COD-WaW beta -> FIFA -> Gears 2.

  24. Harry

I’m also a professional games journo.

Far Cry 2 is fucking awesome.

Ubisoft didn’t pay for me to have that opinion.

The game is just damn great.

    #24 6 years ago
  25. morriss

That’s what you say, Harry. That’s what you say. But how do we ‘know’? How can we tell. We’re not going to let some snivelling journalist whose “only” concern is a headline and sensationalism try and pull the wool over our eyesssssss. No, no. Heh. Heh. Hoo, hoo. Haa. Haa. *sniff* *sniff* My precioussssssss

I tell you what is really irritating about the link between VG247 and advertising and that’s the fucking drop down advert for Far Cry 2 at the top of the screen.

Pat it’s REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING and makes me hate the game more and more with each passing moment.

Proof, if proof were needed that not all advertising works.

I know you’ve got to pay the bills but please . . .

    #27 6 years ago
  28. patlike

Sorry about that. I’d ask for a bit of patience there, to be honest. We’re a start up, so you may see some “intrusive” ads for a little while until we’re properly on our feet.

    Shouldn’t be too long, though.

    #28 6 years ago
  29. G1GAHURTZ

Good grief, now the advert has changed to an even more obtrusive one!!

    NNNNOoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    #29 6 years ago
  30. morriss

I don’t get that drop down thing at all in Firefox. Infact 90% of the time I don’t see the ad foreground. Only the background.

    #30 6 years ago
  31. morriss

Ah! It change after a ctrl+F5

Still doesn’t drop down for me though

    #31 6 years ago
  32. Shatner

I’m using Firefox and adblock plugin. I just turned it off and CTRL+F5′d and saw the ‘full’ version of the advert.

    Bloody hell.

    /switches adblock back on

Yes. I mentioned the names of two products in this post. I’ve earned 0.37 pence!

Please don’t turn into Destructoid, VG247.

And by that, I don’t mean pat. It’s just not right to have a go at the person who’s responsible for providing what we have here. He’s our host, after all. It’s no different to going into someone’s house and pissing on the mat.

I’ve always spoken my mind too, I get in no end of trouble for that. And frankly, I’ve always trusted pat. He’s been getting more opinionated lately too, and that’s good because this is his site and he shouldn’t have to be afraid to share his opinion.

I haven’t been here as long as the rest of you, but this has always been a great place for news, and a fun place to post. That’s a rare combination.

As for the game… I don’t really know what to say about it on the whole because shooters don’t really show a lot in videos. They show more in still shots. I felt the same about Legendary too, which is the shooter I’m the most excited about this year.

There was one part that caught my attention though: the organic fires. I commented on this before, the surprise I showed at the grass catching on fire. This time, I actually had to rewind the video to watch it a few times to make sure they weren’t using some kind of cheap trickery.

That’s some kind of procedural and really organic fire there, and it’s clever. Frankly, gaming always taught me that truly organic fire couldn’t exist outside of 2D games, because there were too many factors to consider. But there it is… flames spread across grass, things on the grass catch on fire as they would, and it all looks very believable.

I’m actually very impressed by little things like that, and it’s always been a point of quiet irritation in my mind that fire in past games has been a self-contained thing that puts itself out. That’s not how fire works.

Now I just want to see dynamic water. I want to see a splash when the guy leaps in, a splash that leaves nearby rocks soaked, grasses flattened, flowers happy, and so on.

    I’m weird, I know.

Got to agree with you there Esha – Destructoid disappeared up its own arse with the Internet Tough Guys who are guaranteed safety by their anonymity. It’s a terrible place now and I rarely visit their site.

It’s a shame because Niero is a genuine guy – I interviwed him a couple of years ago and he was really down to earth. Now, through no fault of his own you can’t get hold of him.

I appreciate you need the revenue stream Pat, but please try to ensure that VG247 doesn’t end up like 90% of the VG sites – a hive of 16 year old girls waxing their penile extensions in the fanboy forums.

    #37 6 years ago
  38. patlike

You’re both right, obviously, but Shatner does “push my buttons” from time to time. He loves it. It’s only semi-serious.

I’m certainly not anonymous: I’m more than happy to meet any of you face to face. In fact, both me and Mike will be at the Eurogamer Expo if any of you fancy a drink that week.

But no, I don’t want VG247 to descend into a fight. That was never the idea.

GOOD NEWS PAT: Adblock now has a newly added custom filter just for VG247.

    Adblock rocks. GET YOURS TODAY!

Incidentally, Pat is pretty certain he knows who I am and morriss has invited me for a drink (he didn’t say which brand of coffee it may be).

But, y’know, it’s great for people to use the internet to express their opinions. I like how other people express their opinion that the opinions of people whose opinions they don’t like the sound of shouldn’t be allowed to express their opinions.

    Democracy at work!
