As part of Nintendo’s Hanabi Festival event, the house that Mario built is digitally re-releasing a Mario title that Squaresoft built – namely, Super Mario RPG.
Be warned, however, that the turn-based trip through Mushroom Kingdom will only be available for “a limited time.”

What the fuck is it with Nintendo and its insistence that digital content should be treated as though it was ‘real’ product? Downloadable games ‘for a limited time’, Wii points vouchers that are ‘out of stock’, etc. etc.

Reminds me of the Disney Vault strategy — a sort of artificially engineered flash-in-the-pan thing that works pretty well. Bring a movie out for a limited time only, then toss it back in the Vault for later hype. Gets people’s attention well enough. And with the Virtual Console’s crappily organized interface, something like that could keep it from becoming over-stuffed and impossible to navigate.
