GameStop: GTA IV 360 outselling PS3 version 2:1

According to this NewsWeek article, GameStop is seeing the 360 version of GTA IV outselling the PS3 SKU by 2:1.

The figures from the US retailer are taken from the game’s first week on sale. The figures roughly fit in with the consoles’ installed base in the US, which stood at 9.9 million Xbox 360s and 4.1 million PS3s at the end of March, although that does suggest an over-performance on the PS3 side.

WTF did people expect??? There are more 360s out there than PS3s. Of course this was going to be the case.

Didn’t you hear the PR running up to the release of the game?

Sony bragged on about GTA 4 being more at home with the playstation brand. In away they thought or believed that come the release of GTA 4 people would go grab them self a PS3 just play it.

What they forgot was there console still costs £300 and no one is going to buy it until it hits £250 not even for GTA 4.

The sales figures are exactly what I knew they would be there’s more 360′s out there. The 360 is much cheaper than the PS3. It also gives you the exact same experience as a PS3 at half the price.

If Sony wanted to sell more they should of dropped there consoles price.

“no one is going to buy it until it hits £250 not even for GTA 4″

Plenty of people are buying it… in Europe at least.

personally don’t think sony is going to get much of hold on things until they come down in price to compete with the 360. At the moment though there sales figures are still very slow.

MGS4 will probably be the turning point GTA 4 was never going to be a sony win.

Did you miss the whole “PS3 has outsold 360 in Europe already” thing?

That’s according to Sony though isn’t it ?

Yes, but I didn’t see Microsoft rushing to counter.

Blerk: They did. Apparently Sony were using their shipped figures vs MS’s old shipped figures. Chart Track / GFK reckon there’s about a million sold in favour of the 360.

(Which basically means that PS3 has outsold 360 everywhere except for the UK)

Did that actually get reported anywhere? I see no ships, etc.

Was from the interview with Greenberg (the one where he ranted about a few things). Been reported in a few places.

Interesting that they didn’t shout about it louder. Obviously the difference wasn’t wide enough to be comfortable with. Or they were fibbing too. :-D

Nah, they’d have been pulled up by Chart Track etc if they’d lied… but it’s obvious that their lead isn’t going to last long.

“The 360 is much cheaper than the PS3. It also gives you the exact same experience as a PS3 at half the price.”

Pardon?

Exact same experience? No.
Much cheaper? No. (I paid less for my PS3 than I did my 360)
Half the price? No.

In fact, to get the “Exact same experience” the PS3 offers out of the box with a 360 you’ll have to invest quite a lot of extra cash in controller chargers, wireless adapter and HDD upgrades. Then you’ve only got the lifetime of paying for online gaming that Microsoft charge.

See, when you wave silly statement like that around it shows how little homework you’ve done to support your claims.

Incidentally, Microsoft are the ONLY people to charge a premium for online gaming. Nintendo don’t. Sony don’t. You don’t even have to pay on PC. Only the 360 incurs this additional cost for a purposefully closed network that doesn’t cater for things like user-created content.

Try not to make silly statements again kasai, this site already has a few deluded 360 fanboys regularly staining the comments section with their nonsense, it doesn’t need any more.

Yeah!

Maybe he should have said…

“the entry level 360 is much cheaper than the entry level PS3. It also gives you a much better GAMING EXPERINCE ACROSS THE BOARD at almost half the price.”

Now that would have been much more accurate!

Shatner: My statement wasn’t intended to be fanboyish. I couldn’t careless if Sony or Microsoft win its just a fact you can walk into a store and pick up a 360 premium for £220. plus GTA 4 that’s £260.

You obviously read my statement wrong and took offence and I feel sorry you did.

Kasai, you and I both know that a simple deconstruction of your claim (particularly your claim of “exact same experience”) shows it to be poppycock.

Now you’re making a different claim.

You “I’m not a fanboy, honest!” folks are all the same.

Shatner: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=137829

Don’t believe me then read. GTA 4 on both consoles are the exact same experience infact in a lot of cases the 360 version fairs better.

Nonetheless same game same experience only you get it cheaper on the 360. Want to argue about that fact thats fine by me. PS3 costs £299.99 the GTA 4 bundle from gameplay costs 319.99

Xbox 360 premium close comparison to the PS3 40gb HDD costs 199.99 the GTA 4 bundle with other games costs 269.99.

Xbox 360 console cheaper than PS3 FACT
Xbox 360 bundle with GTA 4 cheaper than the PS3 FACT.

You are the one that took my comment the wrong way and started this by taking what I said to heart.

Both consoles give the exact same experience for this game (Which was what I was talking about) the xbox 360 just so happens to be cheaper and has the advantage of reaching a lot more people that don’t have the cash to burn. PS3 is still too dear and rather ramble on about this I’ll just stop.

PS3 plus GTA 4 still too dear I can’t afford one but that doesn’t mean I hate it.

Xbox 360 I could afford when the price cut happened. Yes I own one but it doesn’t me I favour that console. I just know theres a hell of a lot of them out there and the PS3 needs to catch up.

In short you took my comment the wrong way.
