Here. It’s the result of a poll over over 18,000 IGN readers, asking which version of GTA IV they’re going to buy. The results:
- PS3: 36%
- Xbox 360: 64%
Cue internet meltdown, blood on the streets, etc. The game’s out on April 29.

That’s really not very surprising, is it?

Not entirely, no. Especially considering the huge majority of their readers are American, especially.

I think if they polled their readership with the query, “If you only own one of the following, which one is it : Xbox 360, PS3?” They’d probably get similar results.

The only stat that would really be interesting is the proportion of people who own both machines. Thing is, I reckon the lure of Gamerpoints and DLC might just sway those people in the direction of the 360 version. What this isn’t going to do, though, is sell any more 360s than PS3s to people who want to play this game.

Yeah the breakdown of the choice dual owners will make would be nice to see but I’m not sure about whether or not GTA will help shift 360s.
Unless it’s a ps2 fan that is holding out to go next gen(tm) I think the price difference between the bundles will be tempting for some…

IGN readers also choose to read IGN.
Their tastes and preferences don’t really make that much of an impression on me.
Anyway, I’M STUPID. I’m buying it on both formats. And I’ll get it on PC when it pops up. And DS, no doubt.

According to vgchartz that matches the PS3/360 spread to a tee.

Those figures are meaningless without knowing which platform(s) the voter owns.

Well, just look at the recent titles to come out on both platforms.
R6V has to be one of the stand out ones.
When you get so many solid(ish) versions of the same game on the 360 having all sorts of bugs on the PS3, it starts to build up an image in gamers minds that ‘if you want to play it safe, go 360′…

If you own both machines then it obviously makes sense to go with whichever platform the game actually lead on, which in most cases (at the moment) is the 360.
Once you get to the stage where the two versions are identical then I guess it comes down to controller preference, DLC differences, fear of your machine exploding with the force of a small supernova, stuff like that.

IGN being an american based company..where 360 kids reign free.
