Ridge Racer 3D maintains core game mechanic, more muscle cars

Ridge Racer 3D director Masamichi Yamazaki was at Namco's press event this week to talk about what's new for this long-running franchise on 3DS.

Speaking in a video interview with Gamespot posted below, Yamazaki said playing the game in 3D allows for total immersion in the game, and it's natural because it allows you to feel as if you are really racing instead of watching in a 2D environment.

He also said the familiar core racing aspect of the series is back with some of the drift features from Ridge Racer 7, and that new racing areas have been added with a vehicle focus on European style racers and American muscle cars.

Gamespot has also posted gameplay video of Ridge Racer 3DS, and we've added it below as well as a link to a lot of screens for it here.

Ridge Racer 3DS is slated as a launch game for 3DS. If you are interested in watching the the game's teaser trailer again, you can do so here.
