Sony confirms PSP gets price cut in Europe, but not UK

Sony has confirmed that PSP has gotten a European price cut, but the drop won't take affect in the UK

The new SRRP for the handheld will be at €129.99, previously at €169.99.. The US received a price-cut in February.

SCE UK confirmed to VG247 today that the price cut was possible due to "favourable fluctuations" in the exchange rate between the euro and the yen: something that has not fallen into place for the pound.

"Since we in the UK are vulnerable to two exchange rate calculations, pounds into euro and euro into yen, we are not in a position to offer a similar cut in PSP for the UK," the company said in a statement.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported on the price cut, quoting an SCEJ rep.

“The price cut is aimed at increasing adoption of the player in Europe,” said Satoshi Fukuoka of SCEJ.

Sony announced back in January a successor to PSP, codenamed Next Generation Portable, or NGP for short. It'll release in at least one region this year.
