Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer will offer "a direct path to content", dev clarifies

It looks like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may end up having a fair system for players to earn multiplayer content post-launch.

Since the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta, the game's community has been worried about how Activision intends to monetise the multiplayer mode post launch.

Players have been understandably frustrated with how Black Ops 4 has handled post-launch content, offering weapons in loot boxes and no direct way of earning them. Though many hoped for a definitive answer about how the system is going to work in Modern Warfare, developer Infinity Ward has been quiet.

When the controversy first broke out, studio art director Joel Emslie posted an open letter to players stressing that all their feedback is being heard, and lamenting the abuse directed towards the team from some.

Players once again wanted clear answers, which Emslie wasn't able to provide at the time. Now, the veteran art director has returned with a message that should hopefully assuage some of these concerns.

"What I can say is that we are focused on making a different system for Modern Warfare, one with a direct path to content for players," the developer wrote, replying to the same post from 11 days ago.

Although Emslie's statement lacks specifics, it's good to hear that players won't have to rely on RNG to get what they want. We obviously have to wait for the launch of Modern Warfare's microtransactions to be able to say with any certainty, but this is a good start.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out October 25 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Come back later today for a look at the game's Spec Ops mode.
