If you’re heading to PAX East on the Saturday of the show, you can listen to loads of talented people talk about writing an RPG as myself and Matt stare on in awe.
We’ve got a great lineup of guests, including talent from Bethesda, Obsidian, and Larian. Here are all the details you need to know.
Where: Condor Theatre at PAX East

Description: Hosted by VG247 editor Matt Martin and VG247 deputy editor Kirk McKeand, this panel is a chat about the challenges and process behind writing for branching narratives, shared worlds, and the large casts of various kinds of RPGs.
How do you make sure player choice feels meaningful, and how do you give players a sense of ownership over their character in a predetermined story? Will also include talk about specific games the panelists have worked on, with anecdotes of problem solving and the methods employed by writers. Closes out with questions from the audience.

Description: It’s the 20th anniversary of the Sega Dreamcast, and USG and VG247 are celebrating by getting together and playing Crazy Taxi, Power Stone 2, and Soul Calibur! It’ll be a fun hour of trying to beat high scores, battling on rapidly morphing stages, and trascending history and the world in a tale of swords and souls, eternally retold! Plus, we’re inviting lucky participants from the audience to play with us, share their favorite Dreamcast memories, and get some free stuff!
Panelists: Kat Bailey [USG], Nadia Oxford [USG], Kirk McKeand [VG247], Matt Martin [VG247].
Description: It’s a debate that has raged since the dawn of time: what is the best weapon in the whole of PC gaming? Some (i.e: those who are correct) say it’s Doom’s Super Shotgun. Others passionately defend Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun. However, you’ll also find plenty of people who will go to bat for Portal’s Portal Gun or Quake’s Railgun, while others still might argue that the Hidden Blade from Assassin’s Creed is more deserving of the title, or maybe even Final Fantasy VIII’s Gunblade (because, come on, it’s a sword and a gun at the same time).
All are excellent choices. But to help settle this question once and for all, come and join us at PAX East 2019 where we’ll be pitting some of our favourite video game weapons against each other to find out which one is truly the bestest best weapon of all time.
Panelists: Tanya X. Short [Kitfox Games], Andy Nguyen [Brace Yourself Games], Katherine Castle [RPS], Kirk McKeand [VG247].
