Amazon UK drops £2 Prime games pre-order discount

Amazon UK has announced that it'll no longer offer the £2 discount on video game pre-orders.

For years, Amazon UK offered Prime members a £2 discount on physical video pre-orders. £2 has always been a meagre discount, especially considering what the US branch offers, but it was a discount nonetheless.

Now, Amazon UK has emailed Prime subscribers to let them know the promotion is coming to an end. Pre-orders placed after August 7, 2018 won't be able to take advantage of the promo.

Previously, Amazon Prime members in the UK were guaranteed a £2 discount on all physical video game pre-orders, assuming they were sold/shipped by Amazon.

This is not terribly surprising. Amazon has been cutting back on some of its generous promotions around video game pre-orders for a while now. Earlier this month, Amazon US added re-releases and remasters to the list of games ineligible to receive the 20% Prime pre-order discount available to members in the US.

Almost a year ago, Amazon US also restricted the 20% discount only to pre-orders. Previously, it was available to new releases within two weeks as well as pre-orders.

It seems gamers looking to get a good deal on physical game pre-orders are running out of options. Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked (GCU) program is also ending.
