There's a touching tribute to Metal Gear Solid in Ghost Recon Wildlands' Splinter Cell mission

Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher is disappointed to hear that Solid Snake has retired.

In the recently released Splinter Cell mission in Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ubisoft actually brought in Michael Ironside to reprise his role as Sam Fisher.

In one cut-scene, Fisher jokes about how few of his kind are left, and jokingly references "an army infiltration guy who wore a bandanna", which is clearly a nod to Solid Snake.

Fisher is surprised to hear that Snake retired, and it's only him left now. He even takes a moment to contemplate that fact before the scene continues. Twitter user @Nibellion captured the moment for your viewing pleasure below.

Though this nice bit of banter was unexpected, this is actually not the first time the two games joked about or referenced one another. It's never been childish, and clearly shows the developers of both games share a respect for each other.

Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell were seen as competitors back in the day, both expanding the stealth genre in their own ways.

The video below from Doctor Gamma reminds everyone of the time Snake talked about Fisher (and Syphon Filter's Gabriel Logan), and when the latter joked about a particular mechanic in Metal Gear Solid.
