Hearthstone animated short is the Pixar knock-off musical you never knew you needed

And maybe still don't. We don't know what you like.

Hearthstone has spawned an animated promotional short, something the success of Overwatch's shorts and World of Warcraft's history of cinematics probably made inevitable.

The Hearthstone team weren't content with a heartwarming hero's origin story, like this week's Overwatch Mei short, or the determinedly melodramatic stylings of a World of Warcraft expansion intro: oh no. As in all things, Hearthstone goes its own way, and so we get this Pixar-like musical adventure. Behold!

Putting aside objections to loot crate economies, Hearthstone is one of the most family friendly games you could find, and perhaps this little video will convince some parents to play with their youngsters, which is never a bad thing. Hopefully the old World of Warcraft fans out there will see the warmth and light-heartedness of it, and not chuck a fit because it doesn't live up to their appreciation of WoW's more grimdark lore. You never know with Blizzard's enormous fanbase, do you?

Anyway, the Hearthstone animated short released during gamescom 2017 and was heavily overshadowed by Overwatch's efforts as always, which is pretty unfair since Hearthstone is a huge deal on its own merits. Was there a Heroes of the Storm short too? That would be a different story.
