Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon’s Dogma 2? Hideaki Itsuno hopes to announce a new game this year

Capcom veteran Hideaki Itsuno hints at something special this year. 2017 is already better than 2016.

Capcom fans ought to know who Hideaki Itsuno is – he directed Devil May Cry 2 – 4, taking over for Hideki Kamiya, as well as Dragon’s Dogma – his own creation.

In the best possible start to 2016, Itsuno dropped a New Year’s tweet saying he plans to exert himself and get a new game announce out this year.

While we’d be very interested to see what new projects Itsuno might come up with, the Devil May Cry fanbase is loudly calling for a direct followup to Devil May Cry 4 as opposed to a continuation of the reboot series DmC, and since the industry is yet to take up the excellent new ideas found in Dragon’s Dogma for rival RPGs, a sequel to that would be very welcome.

It’s possible Itsuno’s tweet may mean he hopes to release a project, but if he does just mean announce we probably won’t see this one till 2018. That said, the industry is moving towards shorter PR cycles, so cross your fingers.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen released in 2013, so Itsuno’s certainly had time to turn out something else – but think how long Capcom’s had Deep Down in the works.
