Expect plenty of post-launch character releases for Injustice 2.

Injustice 2: NetherRealm taking a “more aggressive” approach to DLC

The upcoming Injustice 2 will not only continue developer NetherRealm’s tradition of releasing characters as DLC post-launch, but it may be the one with the most add-ons.

“One of the things we’ve been doing, trying to do more and more with every game… is to support it for a longer period of time,” creative director Ed Boon told IGN.

“With DLC characters, we’ve had four with Mortal Kombat, six with Injustice, eight with Mortal Kombat X, and with Injustice 2 we plan on continuing that pattern,” he said, adding that “it will certainly be more aggressive than we’ve been in the past.”

With customisation and gear unlocks being one of Injustice 2’s key features, Boon said the studio is looking into ways to allow players who don’t want to spend the time to pay for unlocks.

For those who “won’t want to invest months and months of their time” to get these unlocks, Boon said the team is looking to “cast the biggest net possible to get as many players into it as possible.”

“We have ideas in our head of the things we’d like to consider but certainly haven’t like nailed down this is going to be the way to do it,” Boon went on. “Ideally to me the whole purpose of this feature is customisation, longevity and ongoing moulding of your character so to speak.”

Injustice 2 is out sometime in 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One. At E3 last week, NetherRealm showed off gameplay for the firs time.
