Age of Conan, Secret World dev Funcom up for sale

Funcom, the team behind Age of Conan, The Secret World and the recently released Lego Minifigures Online is up for sale.

Following disappointing sales of Lego Minifigures Online, Funcom, the team that also created and operated Age of Conan and The Secret World, is looking to sell.

It has appointed an investment bank to look in to "strategic options", which include finding "interested parties for discussions surrounding a possible investment, acquisition, merger, or any other available options."

Those other options are likely to include a sale of individual assets - games, code, etc - or a bankruptcy filing as a last resort.

Whatever the outcome, this is not a good situation for Funcom as a business. Last month it reported poor sales of the PC version of Lego Minifigures Online, having borrowed $1.6 million to finish it.

The company has previously had run ins with local financial investigators, and has closed down operations in Beijing and Montreal.
