"We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software", says Iwata

Nintendo doesn't plan on discontinuing the 3DS and Wii U any time soon.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors it doesn't make business sense to abandon the 3DS and Wii U just because a new console is on the horizon.

"The NX is new hardware, and will start from zero," Iwata said during a recent investor briefing.

"However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software while preparing for the NX.

"We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U," Iwata added, suggesting Nintendo knows early adopters of the console feel let down by its software line up.

Elsewhere in the briefing, Nintendo explained why it announced the NX so early.

This all comes via Japanese Twitter user Nstyles reporting live on the briefing, with well-known and trusted Japanese newshound Cheesemeister translating.
