Sony Online Entertainment has released a companion mobile app for Planetside 2, available now for free on Android and iOS. PCGamesN reports the app allows you to voice chat with your compadres, which is kind of amazing if you’re trying to organise whatever the shooter MMO has instead of raids. It also connects to various social media and community destinations, provides information on game systems, has a news ticker, offers leaderboards and stores your character’s stats for bragging rights at the pub.

Sony Online Entertainment recently decided to compensate Planetside 2 players who had purchased useless duplicate items with Certs, the MMO’s currency. Unfortunately, PCGamesN claims something went terribly wrong, and many players have received ridiculously inflated rewards, and the leaderboards are groaning under the weight of so many overnight millionaires, kitted out with every upgrade available all at once. The latest update from SoE’s Matt Higby denies any erroneous payouts, but an earlier post mentioned that any errors wouldn’t be rolled back.

Sony Online Entertainment is so pleased with the engine built for Planetside 2 – ForegeLight – that it’s going to put it to work in future projects, too.

Planetside 2 was updated a few hours ago, adding in a bunch of new content already previewed in text and video form. The full patch notes reveal a heck of a lot of additional content on top of what we knew about beforehand, and through the break you’ll find some screens giving you a good look at such delights as the Flash’s new cloaking ability and shotgun.

PlanetSide 2 has an update in the works, and SOE has provided a preliminary list of what to expect with GU04. Tentatively scheduled for release next week, contents include: a Flash update featuring a Wraith Module, rumble seat, a new shotgun, account level unlocks, VR training, new respawn and map screen, membership enhancements, and more. PlanetSide 2 will be coming to Major League Gaming with more news to be announced “in the coming weeks.” SOE and MLG are currently in the process of creating “ideal competitive gameplay features and settings,” for competitors complete with original programming. A broadcast schedule will be announced over the course of the next few weeks, along with further details. Yesterday, it was announced that League of Legends, Black Ops 2 on Xbox 360 and an unannounced title would be included in the MLG Winter Championship circuit. Thanks: Massively, PlanetSide Universe.

While SOE was on vacation, some folks decided it would be fun to take advantage of a PlanetSide 2 exploit which caused players entering a certain radius to become disconnected. We’ve no idea what this entails, but PCgamesN explains it much better than we could: “Offenders were placing C4 on Sunderer APCs equipped with a particular mod and detonating them – a specific combination which caused every player in the immediate area to crash to desktop.” SOE has released a fix for hex crash issue, and using the log evidence, will be banning players which used the exploit. Evidence of said foul play can be found in the video below.
