OP Flashpoint: Dragon Rising DLC in the works for PS3 and 360

dragonrisingheader

Ian Webster, community manager for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, has revealed that a second bit of DLC is currently being developed for the game on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Here’s the post from the official forums:

“Just to keep you in the loop with what is happening this end, we wanted to let you all know that we currently have a 2nd DLC pack currently in development for the Xbox 360 & PS3.

Can’t give out too many specific details at the moment, but the pack will include amongst other things additional MP modes, as we realised that this was something the community were very much asking for in any new DLC.

As soon as I can release the full content of the upcoming DLC, I will be sure to let you know.”

OpFlash man: Modern Warfare 2 is “Michael Bay of videogames”

operationflashpoint

Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising Sion Lenton has branded Modern Warfare 2 the “Michael Bay of videogames,” saying the upcoming Infinity Ward shooter is a “hyped event”.

“The very nature of the game, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, is a hyped event,” the developer told EG.

“It’s kind of like the Michael Bay of videogames. Its budget, its sales, all these kind of things – it is a huge game. But if you’re worried that about kind of thing then nobody would ever make games – there would only be one football game, one shooter game and one platform. It’s healthy to have competition.”

Lenton went on to say, however, that Dragon Rising and Modern Warfare 2 aren’t actually competing. Make your mind up, Sion.

“I don’t actually think we’re in the same place as Modern Warfare 2, anyway,” he said.

“We’re a different creature. We’ll probably get people buying [our game] and Modern Warfare 2 as well. There’s a market for both. I really see Modern Warfare 2 as Hollywood and we’re the Cannes, the arty documentary – dare I say the reportage-style thing.”

Op Flash: Dragon Rising DLC due this month

operationflashpoint214

DLC for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will be released this month, hopefully alongside the release of a network patch, according to executive producer Sion Lenton.

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, he said:

“Within two-to-four weeks of release, tops.

“Our intention is to align [the patch] with the first DLC pack that’s coming out as well, which is due around the end of October. Hopefully we’ll do the whole thing in one.”

He further added that there will be more DLC down the line for the game, but that is hasn’t been decided yet.

“It’s quite open-ended. It’s not a lot of fuss for us to make new content – it’s actually quite easy for us to get it out there, with regards to things like levels, game modes, etc.”

First OpFlash DLC to arrive within “weeks,” major stuff planned

operationflashpoint2

Codemasters is planning on some serious DLC releases for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, as confirmed in this Telegraph interview with Sion Lenton, the game’s executive producer.

“We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks,” said Lenton.

The developer went on:

“Our team are already prototyping all sorts of stuff to be released as DLC and we’re really excited about it. It’s a really different type of market now; I remember five or six years ago, you’d get a game, finish it, put it back on the shelf and that was it. But now it’s almost as though the game’s release is just the beginning, really.

“Ours is a game that lends itself very well to expansion – there will be weapons packs, map packs – all sorts of things we can do to get our product out there.”

Another reason to go and buy it, then.

Codemasters now 70 QA staff lighter [Update]

dirt25

Update: We’ve just had Codemasters on the phone to reiterate that no permanent staff have been affected by this in any way, and the 70 QA positions were held by temps reaching the end of contracts.

Original story:

Codemasters has confirmed to VG247 that it’s just dropped “around” 70 QA staff, temps designed to push through DiRT 2 and Op Flash: Dragon Rising.

We’ve just been told that those cut free today were “never on permanent contracts”.

We’re actually hearing a slightly different story from dev contacts, but hopefully details will become clearer later today.

Op Flash: Dragon Rising won’t support DX11 “out of the box”

operationflashpoint22

Codemasters told VG247 today that the October’s Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising won’t have DX11 support at launch, but it doesn’t sound as though a future update’s being ruled out.

“Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will not support DX11 out of the box,” said a rep by email.

“Colin McRae DiRT 2 will be our lead title supporting DX11 later in the year.”

We followed up on the phone but couldn’t get an answer on whether or not the game will get DX11 support through DLC. Guess we’ll just have to wait.

The PC version of DiRT2 was delayed to fit in DX11 features last month. It’s now releasing in December.

Operation Flashpoint deaths will be “as unpleasant as possible”

operationflashpoint212

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is aiming to be as brutal about dying as it possibly can be, senior producer Sion Lenton, told RPS.

Check this out:

A head shot will be a kill. But it’s more complex than that: you can shoot through a guy’s leg or chest, and he won’t die instantly, even if he goes down. You might reach his position and see him bleeding to death. It’s going to be horrible to see. We didn’t want to make death too light or too easy. The same damage system is true for you, which makes things more challenging. We want to make death as unpleasant as possible, and to make players more careful. You’re not going to run through an open field with your guns blazing. The game will teach you not to do that.

Sounds grim. Hit the link for more. The game’s out for PC, 360 and PS3 on October 9.
