Codemasters has just confirmed that Operation Flashpoint 2 is currently down for a winter release and a formal date announcement can be expected shortly.

The game's "launch timing is to be revealed as a countdown over next couple of months," a spokesperson told videogaming247.

Operation Flashpoint was a breakthrough PC shooter in which players could use vehicles as well as their feet to accomplish missions. PC fans loved the "realism".

The sequel was originally under development at Bohemia Interactive, the team behind the first title, but has since been moved to an internal team at Codemasters and renamed Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. The game's scenario is a Russian-Sino-US conflict.

This is listed for release on PS3 and 360 as well as PC. More soon.
