Counter-strike: Global Offensive files yield Half-life jokes
Kotaku‘s got a small gallery of images reportedly pulled from the Counter-strike: Global Offensive beta, which purportedly reference Half-life, among other Valve games. Before you get too excited, Steam forum users have known about these for a while, and haven’t uncovered an AR puzzle or any concrete teases, so it seems Valve may just be making some in-jokes of the kind which wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow at another company. Still, they’re kind of cool – go look. Global Offensive is expected to launch in the first half of the year, for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Update for Orange Box engine released on Steam

Folks who play the Orange Box via Steam will get an engine update next time they log in.
The specific changes include:
- Updated the engine to report SteamIDs using the Steam_0 format instead of Steam_1
- Fixed problems in Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Source mods running the current Orange Box engine
- Reverted the change that capped rate at 30,000

Half-Life was ten years old yesterday. To celebrate, Valve’s put the game up on Steam for 98 cents, the offer being valid until Friday.
You’d be a bit silly to not buy it, frankly. It’s still great.

“More Portal for sure”, says Valve
Valve’s Doug Lombardi has shocked precisely no one while delighting precisely everyone by confirming there are more Portal-based games on the way
“There’ll be more Portal, for sure. But the details of that, to be honest, we’re still working out,” he told EG. “The only smart thing we did for Portal was to hire those seven kids and give them the support they needed to make the game.”
