Survival Mode with perma-death is now available for Banner Saga 2 owners.

The free content update tasks players with surviving 40 back-to-back combat levels.

Based on feedback from the community, the team at Stoic modified how the combat worked from the core game, and tested it through a closed beta before release.

In survival mode players have to assemble combat team from existing Banner Saga heroes. Once the team is complete, combat ensues. Perma-death in battle means just that: once a hero dies, they cannot be brought back.

Each victory will grant the Renown currency which can be used to unlock more Heroes to replace ones which may have fallen. Items now drop in combat, or can be purchased with Renown, allowing the player to improve their combat team.

A 30-second timer "keeps the action moving" and leaderboards track player rankings. And all difficulty levels are included in Survival Mode, which means Hard Core Challenge is available to those who make it through.

All Banner Saga 2 owners on Mac and PC can now download Survival Mode free on Steam, GOG, Humble Store, GreenMan Gaming, EA’s Origin and other digital PC and Mac stores.
