Samsung is working on a standalone wireless VR headset

Samsung has announced that it's developing a standalone wireless VR headset. The company revealed the news during its developer conference yesterday, as reported by Variety.

According to Samsung's head of R&D for software and services Injong Rhee, the new headset may not necessarily work with mobile devices, like the current Gear VR headset.

This headset could also support hand gesture tracking, one of the advanced features the company is exploring.

"We are working on wireless and dedicated VR devices, not necessarily working with our mobile phone," said Rhee. "VR is amazing, but the industry is still at its infancy."

Rhee admitted, however, it may be years before we see such advanced features in VR headsets.
