Panicked robots and gorgeous visuals abound in GDC engine tech demos

[Assumes serious promotional materials voice.] The future of game development ... is now.

Unity and Epic have both released promotional videos for their respective engines to mark GDC 2016, presumably in the hopes of wooing more developers into licensing their tech.

The Unity Engine tech demo is part one of a sci-fi short called Adam. Given how cheap and accessible Unity is, it's pretty amazing what it's capable of. Take a peek:

The next part of the short is due at Unite Europe 2016 in Amsterdam. You can find out more about the technical details on the Unity website.

Epic didn't bother with a narrative this time, instead plumping for a cinematic trailer featuring a lovingly recreated McLaren 570S. Racing games regularly push graphics boundaries, so it's a canny content choice.

Epic also offered a more practical take this year, forsaking futuristic cinematic glories for a showreel of existing Unreal projects highlighting some of the engine's built-in features.
