Metal Gear Solid Unreal 4 fan remake cancelled

The unofficial Metal Gear Solid remake, which looked good even early in development, will not continue.

Shadow Moses, the fan project that planned to remake the original Metal Gear Solid with modern graphics in Unreal Engine 4, has been cancelled.

Developers of the unofficial remake announced this earlier today on Facebook, but did not give a reason why.

"We have an important announcement to make today," the devs wrote. "We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control.

"We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received."

That won't be the end for this team, it seems, as they promised more news to follow soon.

As sad as it is, it's certainly not unexpected. Many big publishers are notorious for shutting down fan projects that leverage existing IPs, and Konami would certainly not be among the most open of the bunch.

Watch the initial trailer below to see what they hoped to achieve.
