This ARK: Survival Evolved mod adds a 65 square kilometer map of islands

A mod is in development for Steam Early Access title ARK: Survival Evolved and it adds new islands to the game.

For those unfamiliar with ARK, it thrusts players onto an island where they are stranded, naked, and in danger not only from the elements, but the resident dinosaurs as well.

The mod in question is titled The Apako Islands, and it's a 65 square kilometer (40.4 miles) map featuring islands instead of one huge tract of land.

It contains various biomes which are rather temperate, and some will either be tame or "quite dangerous".

The Apako Islands mod created by Kimmykix is currently in Alpha, so a few issues are to be expected. These include ruins not showing up properly, caves being devoid of collision, low NPC spawns and the lack of ambient sounds.

Most of the collision issues will be fixed in an update planned for this week.

According to Kimmykix, the mod will always be 100% free, but you are free to donate through PayPal.

ARK: Survival Evolved was one of the top-selling games during the Steam Summer Sale. It came in fourth on the best-seller list with 431,456 downloads, and was the second-largest earner behind Total War: Attila with $10.7 million in earnings.
