The Witcher 3: Precious Cargo walkthrough

Who is this merchant and is he telling you the truth?

The Witcher 3's Precious Cargo Treasure Hunt isn't too troublesome. You'll encounter a merchant who claims he was attacked by monsters, but who is this merchant and is he telling you the truth? There's only one way to find out, and that's by investigating the scene and finding the box he speaks of.

If you need some help tracking down this Treasure Hunt or finding te merchant's missing belongings, here's our guide on how to complete the Precious Cargo Treasure Hunt in The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3: Precious Cargo walkthrough

To start the Precious Cargo Treasure Hunt in The Witcher 3, you'll want to head south of the Nilfgaaridan Garrison. You'll find a road that splits into a triangular shape on the main map. Here, you'll find a merchant sitting around a campfire, and he wants you to find a box for him. He claims this box contains his belongings, and that they're stuck in a nearby swamp.

Follow the cart tracks using your Witcher senses until you find the slaughtered horse. Continue searching the area for clues and you'll find the box soon enough. Though, it becomes clear as day that the merchant lied to you about how he ended up in such a situation. Return it to the merchant and you can then choose to call his bluff.

You'll then need to chase him down quickly on horseback when he flees, but once you get close, one swipe of your sword will bring him to his knees. You now need to decide his fate.

Let him save his buddies and keep his items, and you'll get 30 Crowns and 10 EXP too. If you choose to turn him in, you'll receive the same. If, on the other hand, you let him live but keep his items, you'll actually receive 10 EXP, 50 Crowns, and some ingredients to be used in alchemy.

So, while it's a bit mean, the best outcome to this quest is to let the merchant live while confiscating his items from him.
