New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold over 10 million copies in North America alone

The Wii U is too young for a 10 million seller, but the Wii has racked up another one today.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold over 10 million copies in North America, Nintendo of America has announced.

10 million is not a negligible amount by any count, but for a platform exclusive and a single territory it's a huge achievement.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii released in late 2009 and hit 10 million worldwide sales in January 2010, which made it the fastest-selling platform exclusive at the time. Last time Nintendo updated us at the end of Q1 2014 it had sold over 28 million copies worldwide, making it the fourth best-selling Wii game of all time.

New Super Mario Bros. U, its direct successor, had sold over 4 million units at last check in.
