Dark Souls PC finally looks to be giving GFWL the flick

Dark Souls players will soon be able to migrate their saves and achievements from Games for Windows to Steam.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is available on Steam, but uses Games for Windows Live to manage DRM, saves and achievements.

Bandai Namco has announced that players will be able to migrate saves and achievements to Steam in November. More specific dates will be announced soon.

The announcement does not specify that the GFWL DRM system will be entirely removed from the title.

Microsoft is sunsetting Games for Windows Live, so it needs to removed from existing games in order for them to remain playable. Since the service is notoriously fickle and patchy, many players are keenly anticipating the possible patch.
