Minecraft meets Civilization in amazing CivCraft mod

If you've ever wanted to be able to wander around your empire in Civilization, CivCraft is just what you're after.

A server side Minecraft mod, CivCraft is basically a version of Civilization in which players band together to form nations and compete with other groups.

By building individual towns, players stake out an area of land in a Minecraft world, in which their creations are protected from other players. These towns together form civilisations, which can research technology to unlock new structures.

Players need to set up farms and mines as well as explore to gather the resources to build a variety of structures, which in turn provide various benefits - just like in Civilization. Other imported aspects of Civilization gameplay include culture, trading, government types, units, war, world wonders, diplomacy and espionage.

The mod preserves the goal-oriented empire-building of Civilisation, while allowing players more creative freedom in putting together their worlds - and, of course, letting them run around in them, fending off mobs.

"We want to take the creative spirit of Minecraft and give it a competitive purpose so that players can take greater pride in their accomplishments," the creators said.

The open-source mod has been playable for a couple of years, and anybody can set up a server. If you're keen to check it out, you can download the mod and learn more at CivCraft website.
