Call of Duty from Sledgehammer set for May 4 reveal

Thursday, 1st May 2014 17:05 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

The next Call of Duty game is set for a reveal on May 4 according to this teaser site.

The scrambled image is set to become clearer in 2 days, 21 hours and 53 minutes from now as of this post.

If you click on the white dots on the page, you will be taken to mock websites of the New York Times and Business Insider. These mock ups discuss “Mercenaries and Private Military Contractors” as well as “The Demise Of Blackwater.”

You can also get a look at one image from the upcoming shooter on Game Informer as it’s the main feature of the magazine’s next issue. The file name mentions “Blacksmith” which is one of the rumored subtitles for the shooter.

It is also rumored that actor Kevin Spacey will play the villain in the upcoming title. This is according to an audio clip of the Usual Suspects actor which leaked and was posted on Variety.

The audio clip states: “And you think you can just march into these countries based on some fundamentalist religious principles, drop a few bombs, topple a dictator and start a democracy? Give me a break.”

The next Call of Duty games is slated for a fall release and the first in-game image was shown by Sledgehammer Games at GDC in March.

The image showed how “actual in-game characters,” will look and how the developer is taking a next-gen approach to how the game will look.

It revealed was earlier this year the visuals represented a massive jump over the current game in the franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Formats for the game have yet to be announced, but it’s assumed by many to be PC, PS4 and Xbox One only, yet other rumblings state it’s cross-generation.

We’ll know more come May 4. Meanwhile, Activision has also sent us the following infographic:

Activision said it was a next gen first development COD, meaning last gen systems aren’t a priority.

It’s going to have to be killer. They’ll have to do more than great graphics, gameplay will need to have something fresh to offer. There is freshness available in shooters right now, Titanfall and Destiny (soon) are seeing to that, so I feel like the same old COD formula won’t sell as many copies as usual this time.

I was the guy who never got sick of COD, but if there isn’t something new available in the gameplay, even I won’t be picking up a copy in November.

“In the last 20 years, global combat has seen a steady shift towards the use of private military corporations, or PMCs. What happens when the highest bidder becomes the world’s next superpower? A new era arrives for Call of Duty. See the world reveal on 5.4.14.”

On a serious note, are we supporting/promoting this kind of militaristic acts by buying products like Call of Duty?

To be fair Black Ops 2 had a much bigger “Guns of the Patriots” vibe going on, with automated tanks, drones, and what not.
