PlayStation Store update brings non-functioning rental links, linked to PS Now – report

The PlayStation Store will soon offer rentals, if today’s somewhat broken update is to be believed.

Both MP1st and PSNStores report the North American PS Store now shows one, seven and 30 day rental options on some titles, including Atlus’s Catherine.

The rental options don’t work as yet, however, and a bit of investigation by NeoGAF users turned up evidence the rentals may apple to PS Now, Sony’s Gaikai-powered streaming games service.

PS Now is currently in closed beta testing in North America.

Whatever Sony is doing with the PS Store, it resulted in a significant delay to this week’s update.

I wonder how folks would feel if the free PSPlus game library became a PSNow only deal. Where you didn’t get them you’d only stream em.

Seriously though. This would be pretty cool as an actual function, if you could rent out games on your hardware.

I rarely buy full games if I know that they’re short and going to be finished in a weekend, but I would happily rent most of them. It let’s me enjoy them at an affordable cost and get the most of them, but still funds the developers.

I’m frankly surprised a system like this hasn’t been done years ago, frankly.

Just as long as they’re running natively, and not streamed garbage.
