Evolve will have single-player, environments play an important role

Evolve isn’t strictly a multiplayer only affair, Turtle Rock has confirmed, among other new details of the newly-revealed co-op shooter from the creators of Left 4 Dead.

According to the GameInformer reveal feature, as harvested by CVG, there will be some kind of solo experience, although the developer isn’t ready to talk about it yet.

Evolve is about clearing hostiles off distant planets, the largest of which is called Shear, to allow colonists to settle there. Environments will be “very lush and large”, and feature AI wildlife. Players can track the creature through the wilderness using footprints and other clues, while the creature can feed on animals to grow larger and more dangerous.

Hunters can choose from assault, medic, support and trapper classes, with character and item progression systems. Although hunters have unlimited ammunition, they can only die and be revived three times before they’re out of the game.

There will be other modes in addition to Hunt, and in Hunt mode the player in the role of the creature can complete objectives to win.

Although 1v4 is what Turtle Rock has designed for, matches can still go ahead with fewer players; AI characters will fill the empty slots, as in Left 4 Dead, and players can switch between them when available, as in Fuse.

Evolve is expected on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but has not been firmly dated.
