Gran Turismo 7 to release on PS4 in 2014 in “best case” scenario, says Yamauchi

Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital is aiming for a 2014 release for the next entry in the series, although the sixth game is just around the corner.

Polyphony boss and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi told Top Gear the team is hoping for a speedy release.

“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best-case scenario? Next year,” he said.

Although this might seem ambitious, given how long the series has taken to spawn new entires in the past – four years between GT3 and GT4, five years between GT4 and GT5, and three years between GT5 and GT6 – but Yamauchi’s next comment suggests that hardware has had something to do with the lengthy development times to date.

“In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100% to maximise the PS3′s architecture,” he said.

“But of course the PS4′s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”

Gran Turismo 6 arrives exclusively on PlayStation 3 on December 6.

Thanks, Polygon.

Would have been nice to have a simple up-res (with a steady framerate) of GT6 as a transitional PS4 title. Not sure that I can go back to PS3 at the start of this next gen, and waiting until 2015 is going to be pretty painful. Oh well, Forza 5 will fill the gap.

Am I the only one who think that the chances of Polyphony getting 2 games out in 12 months are slim to non existent.

Would love to be proven wrong.

After the terrible idea of putting microtransaction into the game… I just couldnt care less.

    Yeahhhhhhh, right.
I still fondly remember how Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released at PS3 launch and then the next year the full Gran Turismo 5 came out… Wait.

It looks Kazunori and Ueda have been taking trolling lessons from Kojima. There’s still some way to go until they reach his level though.

More like 2 years and a half. I can definitely see them do the same all over again.

By th’ time PS4 “Gran Turismo” arrives people will already have been
playing simulation quality driving -games [ Assetto Corsa ., Project Cars ]
on triple -screens an’ much better GPU’s already.

Polyphony are undeniably great at their car models. However th’ rest
o’ their game needs to catch -up. Loved “GT6 Academy 2013″ with th’
new suspension physics but is this enough to compete?
