Ubisoft suggests PS4 pre-orders are ahead of Xbox One

Tuesday, 12th November 2013 20:32 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot was asked today during a financial call to investors whether the company was worried over Xbox One retail performance.

During the call Guillemot hinted that pre-orders for PS4 may be higher in Europe, but the company wasn’t worried.

“Even if the PS4 is in front of Xbox One pre-orders, we are not worried at all,” said Guillemot. “We think [Xbox One] will be a best-seller as well.”

During gamescom, Sony stated that over one million PS4 pre-orders had been placed worldwide, and in October, analyst Michael Pachter stated those figures could be around 1.5 million units.

PS4 releases in North America on Friday and in Europe on November 29. Xbox One releases in both regions on November 22.

Was there ever any doubt? Most analysts I’ve seen are expecting the Xbone to trail by about 10%.

It’s nothing major though, that’s just what happens when you botch a launch.

10% less aint bad. Wouldn’t call it a botched launch? Seeing as there will be on the shop shelf stock of xbox one I could see that 10% difference dropping?

Last time I looked, Amazon UK’s “best sellers of 2013″ list had PS4 at #3 and XBox One at #48 (obviously counting preorders).

You have to take into account the vast amount of retailers. In Europe xbox is massive. Gamestop and hmv mostly making those sales in uk and ireland.

XBox is not massive in Europe. The PS brand is much bigger. Only really the UK favours the XBox – though again, Amazon UK shows the market has flipped.

@5 Not at all. Xbox has a roughly 61% to 39% advantage in UK according to last reliable numbers I saw posted by Nintendo showing European and UK sales.

Outside UK the PS3 had outsold the 360 in essentially every other part of Europe.

Now remember that the 360 lead in UK includes near 14 months and two Christmas trading peaks of extra time/sales and it’s behind everywhere else even with that same lead…

360 is massive in US, more popular in UK and that’s it for US/Europe/UK.

With the price difference the PS4 stands a decent chance going on this gen’s numbers to flatten the XB1 in Europe overall and it’ll probably take back some of the UK marketshare split too particularly as XB1 won’t have an early lead this time.

XB1 will sell okay too, but even more than 360 it looks like it’s going to rely on US to keep it in the game this time around.

PS4 has been trending higher on Amazon’s bestsellers lists for months (at least every time I’ve checked).

I’m sure the price difference hasn’t helped the X-ONE.

Though I don’t think the Xbox will sell poorly, or suffer a ‘botched’ launch either. I mean it’s no Wii U.. (sorry Nintendo love you really)

X1 has the most promising launch title (Dead Rising 3) but other than that, PS4 has every single advantage. From more powerful hardware to having less fuck-ups than MS.

So of course they are ahead. Hopefully MS learns from this and make their next console with more gaming focus rather than “LIVING ROOM MULTIMEDIA” dog shit that they are going with X1.
