Report: Eidos Montreal cancel unannounced game connected with Square Enix Japan

Wednesday, 30th October 2013 23:21 GMT By Ewan Miller

Kotaku is reporting that Eidos Montreal has cancelled a third unannounced project the studio was working on, in addition to Deus Ex and Thief. Kotaku’s source claims the cancelled game was in some way connected with the Japanese arm of Square Enix, Eidos’ parent company, with another saying that it was a new IP to boot.

What could it have been? Does it have anything to do with Square Enix having discussed the idea of an Eidos developed Final Fantasy the other day? That would contradict the source who claimed it was a new IP. Hopefully more details will emerge over the next few weeks.

Thanks, Kotaku.

There’s a dark cloud hanging over that place.

I’m surprised Human Revolution wasn’t panned more than it was. Thief looks pretty off too.

Since Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are two different things, there was at least a small chance that whatever it was might have been worthwhile. Then again, they’re owned by Squeenix. It’s rare for anything tied to Squeenix in any way to not suck.

It is. They revamped and restarted development a 1000 times only to make a more limited Dishonored (Which is beyond ironic seeing how Dis was heavily influenced by original Thief games).
