NeoGeo X Gold deal was supposed to run until 2016, licensee Tommo issues statement on SNK Playmore withdrawl

NeoGeo X Gold licensee Tommo had its licensing deal quickly revoked by parent holder SNK Playmore, and now the company has issued a statement that suggests the deal was supposed to run until 2016.

UPDATE: UK distributor Blaze has now issued a statement to Eurogamer to say it will also refuse SNK's withdrawal.

Blaze managing director Jason Cooper said, "Blaze will continue to market and sell all the Neo Geo X Product range and fully support all end users, retailers and distributors in the territories we are responsible for."

ORIGINAL STORY: The press release was issued this morning. Tommo is the same company that is selling and distributing the NeoGeo X Gold console, a piece of hardware that appears to have been quite popular among fans and collectors.

The statement begins, "Tommo, Inc., today responded to the press release that appeared on the SNK PLAYMORE USA Corp website last week. Tommo, Inc. denies that any breach of contract exists in their agreement with SNK PLAYMORE USA Corp and are continuing to support and market the popular NEOGEO X GOLD entertainment system, its accessories, and games.

"Due to the popularity of the system, Tommo and SNK extended the agreement earlier this year until 2016. Tommo fully expects this agreement to be honored by all parties. To date, Tommo has performed all of its obligations under its license agreement with SNK and is disappointed by SNK’s sudden and unjustified termination of the agreement"

In retaliation, Tommo is now demanding that SNK Playmore remove its initial press release on the matter and ceases any attempt to terminate the license agreement between both parties. It will still honour customer service and the warranties of customers in North America, along with Asian distributor Success, and European licensee Blaze.

Jonathan Wan, CEO of Tommo, Inc. said of the matter, “We’re continuing to sell NEOGEO X products, including the NEOGEO X GOLD System, Arcade Stick, MEGA PACK Volume 1 and Classics Volumes 1-5. The license agreement which allows Tommo to sell and market these products remains in effect. Tommo Inc. would like to thank the thousands of NEOGEO X fans who have shown amazing support for NEOGEO X in the last week and want them to know we will continue to support them, their NEOGEO X GOLD systems and products."
