PSA: Nintendo hosting two indie-focused GDC Europe sessions next week

Monday, 12th August 2013 12:02 GMT By Dave Cook

Nintendo is taking Wii U to gamescom next week and as part of the preceding GDC Europe event it will host two sessions dedicated to indie development on the format.

We reported on this here and I clearly forgot to check. Steph reminded me, but hey, it seems to be news to a lot of you. I’ll shuffle off now.

Application Development with HTML and Java Script for Wii U:
Monday 19th August, from 13:00 – 14:00
Highlighting the way that developers can quickly develop Wii U software using Nintendo Web Framework.
Speakers: Martin Buchholz (NOE), Svyetoslav Pidgornyy (NOE)

Unity, Wii U and You:
Tuesday 20th August, 13:00 – 14:00
Focusing on the benefits for developers through Nintendo’s collaboration with Unity, demonstrating the technical advantages of using Unity and the process of getting your title published on Wii U.
Speakers: Wayne Johnson (Unity), James Steele (NOE)

It seems that Nintendo is ramping up its indie support as several big third-party players like EA and Ubisoft have scaled back their commitment to the platform.

What do you make of the above?

This is fantastic. With the Wii U, you get great indie support, and the best exclusives in the industry.

If you have a deluxe set, each one of those indie DL games you buy gives you points to use on the eShop.

I’ll take great indie games and Nintendo’s first party over EA games anyday.

That does read just a little bit like an advert :). However I agree that indie is looking better for WiiU, it’s a place where use of the gamepad could shine too. Looking forward to what comes here.
