EverQuest Next not going down PS4 path just yet, says SOE

EverQuest Next developer Sony Online Entertainment has stressed that while it is laser-focused on bringing the game to PC in the first instance that its experience with PS4 doesn’t rule out the possibility of a console port down the line.

Speaking with Eurogamer, producer David Georgeson said, “We’re very serious about this being a PC-orientated launch. Now, you’re dumb not to explore other options with a business of this type, but we’re very serious about developing for the PC.

“You know the company knows a lot about the PlayStation 4 – look at DC Universe Online and Planetside 2 – so we have a lot of people becoming extraordinarily knowledgeable with that box. We’re not adverse to the idea, but we’re not going down that path yet.”

EverQuest Next was announced at SOE Live earlier this month. You can check out our full report on the game and its flood of details here.

I like that idea of this MMO being developed for PC over a dual development for PS4 and PC. It makes me think that this game will be better if the developers are aware that MMO’s are primarily played on the PC and are creating the game for that audience, not the console market. Not that the console market is any more or less important in terms of gaming, but they have generally less experience with MMO’s.

A PC market is more likely to be critical in the right area’s based on their experience, but that’s me being hopeful xD

I don’t always post comments but when I do you can rest assured there is a reason.

I have been a gamer since I was 5. I grew up with consoles and moved to the PC as the titles for the PC were infinitely better and more robust. That was until about ohh 6 years ago when I was done with WOW. When was the last time you walked into a game store and found an entire wall of PC games(good games?) The answer never. But I digress so there was a period of time I was pure PC nothing else sure I had a PS1 PS2 and the like but the majority of my gaming was on a PC. Once I was over WOW I migrated over completely to consoles and have no interest nor desire to play any game on the PC. I laugh every time I read a post from PC gamers time and time again about how the PC this and PC that is better this or the game plays better and its more important than the consoles etc. and so forth. At the end of the day cash is king companies that want to be successful they build for the consoles. What does this mean it means not one single cross platform blockbuster title on the PC has outsold any console sales period. The PC is dead gone let it go you are the minority now your sales aren’t even a third of the console sales which mean your interests your desires don’t matter to the bean counters anymore. The CONSOLE consumers are now the KINGS and WE drive the market not PC gamers. I get sick and tired of these outdated PC gamers whining and complaining about how they are what matters in the gaming world, that fact could not be further from the truth. Here is an example popular FPS title in 2010 sold on consoles over 8 million copies what did the PC sell?… 700,000 copies. These are global figures that means in the entire world now these types of number are not the norm for a non FPS title but it paints a picture.
Now if we talk about your standard run of the mill title with a smaller base that sell 1 to 3 million worldwide the average PC sales are 30,000…..pathetic. The only reason PC games still even exist is because the game is developed on a PC so it’s basically just a gimmie revenue wise. Once the NEXT gens hit the shelves the PC numbers will slide even more in 2014 and beyond to the point where it’s not even worthwhile to release and support it on a PC. Let’s do a for instance, do you want to play an online game in a world with 1 million people in or 30,000 people lets drill down on that even more and take gaming out of it would you go to a party with 100 people or a party with 3 dudes in his parents basement…

Let’s be honest I enjoyed many a game on the PC over the years but those days are over and even more so the self-entitlement that fan boy PC gamers have that they are somehow more important and have a larger base than they actually do is a tired statement and hasn’t held water since 1997. Any company that releases a PC only title is committing revenue suicide by excluding the consoles and are not forward thinking or doing the share holds justice. Their 60 million dollar project will fail because there aren’t 3 million PC gamers out there waiting in line to get back on a PC for any reason.

WOW is the only exception and ACT/BLIZ see the writing on the wall they will have to join the 21st century and get their title on a console to survive.

Sony is notorious for giving people what SONY thinks the people want and don’t buy instead of actually listening to the consumer and crafting a product everyone wants to buy.

    Keep gaming my friends.
